Starlight gave birth to her second litter yesterday afternoon. Not much improvement over the first epic fail, but a little.
Found nine kits (2 dead still with placentas) in the nest box. She had covered the group of live ones in the back with some hay, but no fur again
Brought them in and warmed on heating pad. The popples do look healthier and not as "beat up" as they did her first litter. Fostered the 4 blues to Soot right off the bat. The black and two whites I covered with some fur I had saved from other does and distracted Starlight with some oats and BOSS. Put a bit of vanilla on her nose and left them for the night. Hoping she will pull some of her own fur, if they aren't fed tonight they will be fostered to Agouti. Last time I put the kits back she chewed an ear off of two them  That's why I tried the vanilla this time. Trying to give her the opportunity to figure it out. I'm going to give her one more shot during the summer, when I won't have to mess with the kits just to save them from the cold. She is the first doe I have had that is aggressive about the nest box and me handling the babies. Not a trait I'm willing to hang on to. Again she is my best type Satin doe, of course  Worst case scenario after that... Freezer Camp!
