Hello, We just got our first Lionhead doe.. She is a Sable Point.. We are new to the Lionheads but not new to rabbits.. Use to raise Jersey Woolies years ago but have forgotten alot of stuff.. Need a refresher course lol...
What all colors would I want to breed to a Sable point? Another Sable Point, I do know, But can you also use a Siamese Sable? I have read you can use Tort as well..
I do have her pedigree and the colors in her Pedigree are.... Sable Point, Tort Black, Siamese Sable, Smoke Pearl, Blue Tort, Black, Self Chin Seal Lilac and that's it..
Thanks so much!

Attached is a pic of her...

What colors are you trying to get?
Pretty much you can breed anything depending on the colors. Since only two colors are accepted now, you have a lot of lee way on how you want to play things.
But if you want some color rules, follow your Jersey Wooly color rules.
I am into my shaded program for the Woolies. The shaded buck is out of a Sable Marten and a Seal. The doe out of Siamese Sable and a Smoke Pearl. I am most interested in shaded only, I wish I had a Himi to start.

So depending on the colors you want, my line up would be Sable point, Himi, Siamese Sable, Smoke Pearl, Seal or a Black Self, or Self based REW.

That's not a sable point.

(had to look it up) I think it's a sable frosty. Sable points are more creamy in body colour, and that rabbit looks white.

Personally, I would get a tort that also throws REW or a REW that also throws tort so you can breed for show-able colors. What lines is your little girl from? She is very cute!

She just looks whiter in the pic because of the lighting but she is a creamy color.

Do you want to show?

If not then sticking with torts and siamese sable will prevent getting anything too weird.

Genetically your rabbit is a shaded tort and a siamese sable is a shaded black so very similar and with similar recessives.

I might want to show down the road. So yes, I do want to produce showable colors.

I love the Weber, Chowmane, and Hare Among the Heather lines. Off the top of my head I don't believe I have heard of the other two.

See, now I had stopped asking this question, because every time I do, and mention unshowable colors, someone gets offended and tells me they aren't interested in showing, just making pretty colors for pets.

So, Maybe I will need to find a Tort with REW in the ped because I wouldn't want to use a buck that is a REW, Would I?

Not much else I can add to the conversation at this point, except that I wish you were closer!
We have several tort babies in the nestbox right now, with more on the way, and they all carry REW! Darn :(
Oh well. You have a nice looking doe....it's only a head shot of course, but it looks like she has a good mane and nice small ears.
Good luck with her!
