All right, RT'ers, time to get your creative juices flowing! :gettowork:

Inspired by the thread drift in this post, chuck-puts-up-with-a-lot-t23444.html where MaggieJ started the limerick ball rolling, I have decided to start this thread of limericks. Clean limericks, mind you. ;)

They are a simple form of poetry (don't want to stress our intellects too much!) that follow the AABBA formula.

:explanation: The "A" lines have 7-10 syllables and rhyme with one another, and the "B'" lines have 5-7 syllables and also rhyme. Lines one and two set the story (usually with a location and character name), lines three and four are witty, and line five is the punch line.

So, without further ado, here is my initial effort:

Wanting to give my family a treat,
I decided to raise rabbits for meat.
I would never have guessed
I'd become so obsessed,
and need RabbitTalk to make life complete!

Very nice, MSD! :goodjob:

I once got into a Dueling Limericks scenario with Oggie over on HT. He always had a limerick to post about just about any situation. I don't think either of us won the duel, but we had fun.

I'll try to post a limerick tomorrow... fresh out of inspiration tonight since I spent most of today back in 1891.

Miss M . . . We're counting on you for a contribution!

LOLOLOL... VERY NICE! :)

here's my first attempt:

Just for show are Lionheads
For meat are Zealand Reds
Who knew both were delicious?
Who knew I could be ambitious?
And feed the crew a stew, of pedigrees and bread

My daughter and I put this one together.
It's about our less-than-ambitious house bunny. :D

Mucky's a Velveteen lop
With rex coat and ears that go flop
She doesn't do tricks
but cuddles and licks
and sometimes we get her to hop :bunnyhop:

Oooh! That does sound like fun! :p I see a trend on our future...

Glad to hear it! I hope the novel is progressing well!

Lol! But what is a rabbit Burgoo? Methinks you must post in the recipe thread... and if Belgians are a crucial ingredient, it will aid and abet me in adding yet another breed to my bunnyfarm! :p

Fortunately, it doesn't have to be today, Miss M. You won't hear :gettowork: from me. But maybe sometime in the next week or so...[/quote]

Poor Miss M, with the "cannot brain today"... must be because I HAS IT! Mwa-ha-ha!

But I wont give you a full week like Maggie- so you'd best get to work!

And the Lionheads come with an after dinner "floss"!

Mucky is so darn cute that she doesn't even need to hp- her epic flops will do! :p

I don't even think I'll attempt one after this! LOL.
Love it! :clap2:

. Oh, now don't call it too soon: Maggie and Miss M haven't spoken yet, and MSD will be back with more. And something tells me if Grumpy gets in the game we should be in for a good laugh! But glad you enjoyed it.

Just a fancy-pants name for a really thick stew made with vegetables, meats, and what-have-you. When I lived in Kentucky it was a big Derby day dish. I like eating it but never made it. Mystang might have a recipe. I will post a recipe for Georgia Brunswick stew, though. If your spoon doesn't stand up in either dish, it's not thick enough!

Well....technically they don't HAVE to be Belgians (or even rabbits), but it was originally a hunter's stew, where you'd slowly cook wild game like possum and rabbit with lots of flavorful veggies so the meat was tender and not gamey..and since Belgians are hares, which are much more like wild rabbits...yes, yes, I can see an argument for why you should get some Belgians. In fact, you'd be doing your global and patriotic duty: helping another culture by preserving a heritage breed, and using it to make a heritage dish that preserves Appalachian history. Now that I think about it, getting those hares is your duty!

Thanks for starting this thread. I've been missing my sister that I used to share poetry with and have silly rhyming conversations. Anyway here are my rabbit limericks.

Just start with two does and a buck
A lot of research and some luck
Then discover RT
And soon you will be
Growing meat that you don't have to pluck.

We thought we had chosen our breeds
Knew we'd use natural feeds,
But questions kept coming
With options mind-nimbing
And the bunnies kept growing like weeds.

Well, not much for a poet, but I'm on vacation and bored silly, so might as well apply the silly to something!

I'll spare you the long ramblin' story,
Just in case, you find it should bore ye.
But one turned to two,
Rapidly, the herd grew!
The addiction, in all of its glory.

Way to enable, TRF! You've obviously learned a lot more here than just rabbit husbandry! :p

We'll rhyme with you in her absence! Call it the Sisterhood of the Rabbit! :p (Although boys are allowed too. ;) )

I've been trying out a few limerick ideas but the inspiration just isn't happening. :(

Pity. :( I've been having trouble thinking of another one myself. Miss M must have the brain today. :?

In which case, she had better step up to the plate and post her limerick so we can have it back.

Very nicely done! I hadn't really thought about it before, but you probably did start with just one fiber rabbit, didn't you? Little did you know what the future held in store... :lilbunny: :lilbunny: :lilbunny: :lilbunny: :lilbunny: :lilbunny:

There once was a buck from Yurst,
Who in the ways of love was well versed.
The sign at the gate
Of his well appointed crate
Read "My pretties, who'd like to go first?"

Is that clean enough?? All I could come up with on a moments notice. :D

__________ Wed Dec 31, 2014 12:08 am __________

There once was a doe from Yurst,
Who in the ways of bucks was well versed.
With twelve kits underfoot,
And her nerves all kaput,
Said "I would sooner throw you out headfirst."

not nearly as witty as some but this is true...

Rabbits always caused me fear
I never held one until this year
One was placed in my arms
It erased all my qualms
Now I find rabbits to be very dear!

or

Rabbits always caused me fright
I was told that they would bite
Then I held one in my arms
It erased all my qualms
Now I think of rabbits day and night!

I had an excess of coffee this morning and am feeling witty (good thing DH has to go to work so he doent have to put up with me! :p ). I got a good idea while I was out doing morning bunny rounds!!

Champagnes, those old coin colored pelts
Rex so soft, your heart all but melts
Both wonderful breeds
But still a girl needs
Those who's wool you can spin, knit, and felt!
