I can't find this in the standard, and can't remember from years past...

I know rabbits can only win 2 of their 3 grand champion legs as juniors.
Since English lops have a 6-8 class, do winnings at this age count as junior, or senior winnings...i.e. if 2 legs are won before 6 months old, and 1 leg is won between 6-8 months old, is this enough legs to get a grand champion?

__________ Sat Sep 08, 2012 5:14 pm __________

I guess the second part of this question is....if your 6 month old bunny makes weight and has the ear length to show against the seniors and win, would the leg won count as a senior leg, or as a junior or 6-8, since that is the rabbits actual age?

Yes... rabbits Can be bumped UP in class and it counts.....i went round in circles until a judge verified this for me ! So a Junior Can be bumped up and the leg is valid...However..... they Still must be at Least 6 months, and Senior weight, to be registered

At Least One leg must be won as a 6/8 OR Senior.

Correct.

I thought that standard stated atleast one leg be won as a senior. All other legs can be either as jr or 6/8 if you have a 6 class breed. Goodluck finding a jr rabbit that is a 6 class though that can compete with the sr's, unless of course you are competing with some poor sr's with an overly large jr. If that is the case more than likely when they reach actually sr age they will be way over weight.

Read the back of the leg certificate... " one leg must be either Senior OR intermediate".

at least with our breed... a 6/8 who is close to being a Senior can often overlap the senior weights. They will still fall in the correct weights as seniors. i have Never had a Junior, of a 6 class breed, that could be bumped all the way to senior. Perhaps the 4 class rabbits might.

That being said though a 6/8 who could overlap into sr weight would be on the low side of sr weight and not ideal and would be much more competitive in it's intermediate class being at the upper weight.
I apologize though I was incorrect about the legs. I've got quite a few just never grand championed out any of mine. Never seem to be able to make more than a couple of shows a year.

Not always, though. I've got a couple of rabbits which would easily pass for 6-8's when they were right at 5 months of age. Right now, they're about a week shy of it and they would fall squarely into the middle of the weight range. I've seen some late 6-8's who'd do the same in senior classes.

It's all about genetics and diet, with a bigger part of the equation falling into the genetic category. Environmental factors can figure into the equation rather prominently as well.

So SatinsRule, if you have juniors who at 5 months fall squarely in the 6-8 weight class, would you show them this weekend as juniors, or as 6-8? I don't know if there is a weight max on juniors, so this question may be moot.

If you showed them as 6-8 and they won a leg, would it count towards their grand championship, as their age is still too young?

Yes it would count as long as weight class for intermediate is met. As their is a max and min weight for each class which differ of course depending on breed. Is there a specific breed you are in question about concerning weight class?

( not SatinsRule) IF the junior Exceeds the Maximum weight for a Junior... they can be moved up to the 6/8 class. A judge who Weighs the rabbits can ( and Will DQ a rabbit for being Over the maximum for their age class ( ask me how i learned That one !) Not all judges weigh each rabbit...but Some do. If a 6/8 weighs over the top limit for 6/8s they can be moved up to Senior class for the same reasons.

Yes !! The leg is valid . Then one just needs to wait until the rabbit is at least 6 months old to register and then send in the legs for GC. ( as long as it is Senior weight)
