Sometimes things go awry when kits are forming, and not only in the case of peanuts and Max factor kits.

I felt it would be a good idea to have a thread devoted to abnormal kits, although I'm not quite sure why. :?

These two kits are from a litter of seven, and were DOA. All other kits in the litter appear normal.

This kit has a malformed head, with the eye sockets very close together, and only one nostril:

This kit's head is also malformed. If it has eyes, they are very small. It doesn't seem to have any nostrils at all, and the end of its muzzle is fleshy with no bone. It has a very minute slit for a mouth... but strangest of all is the fleshy protuberance from the middle of the forehead.

The hands down winner of malformed kits in my barn thus far:

Not really deformed but I had one born with a nonworking leg

I didn't take pics but we got some max factor kits and I think I got 1 peanut. Otherwise I've never had deformed or lethal kits. My previous group of ND bred and inbred with no peanuts, max factor, or anything else besides some stillborns and some dying to cold.

I wish my laptop was up and running, I could show the picture I have of the kit born with smooth skin, like it was wrapped in plastic and had no nostrils.

Back when I had rex, I had one doe that every litter had one or two DOA without nostrils and, missing one or both front legs. I haven't seen any deformed ones with my NZ, the velveteens are new so, I will see if they have issues.

Wow, that is amazing-- in all the years and thousands of rabbits I have had, I have never seen a deformed baby rabbit, I have suspected some deformity, when finding a partly eaten kit, but was never "sure " from the remains they left. I have read about kits with no eyes, mouth, or rectom, but had never seen them.
I have seen deformed pigs, before but never a rabbit.

Interesting. I have never had any deformed kits before, at least none still there to be seen by me.
I did have an oddball in a guineapig litter. First time mom had twins plus a small odd third baby that looked like it died early on yet looked as if it had fur grown in a bit. Head was there but no formed eyes or nose and a teeny mouth indent. Body shaped like a teardrop back from the head. Like it formed a spine but not much for rest of the body. Teeny skin things that Seemed to becwhere the limbs would have grwn in at.
