This little one has been like this since birth. It's probably from over grooming at birth. It has ear holes and I don't think it's deaf since it jumps when I cough. There are six siblings that are all healthy and doing well. This is a first for me although I don't know if it has anything to do with the chewed up litter from before Christmas. It's from one of the two does who are housed together but obviously not from the same one as the litters were a week apart. This litter wasn't going to be saved for breeding anyway so it won't be an issue in a few weeks. Always something new on the homestead!

I have an earless bun as well. She was the victim of an aggressive, nervous mom and should have been culled for dinner...when she escaped! She has been wandering around the farm, has a good rapport with the geese, and seems quite savvy as we have plenty o' predators. Perhaps her safety is due more to the presence of the LGD who is extremely protective of all HER animals. I would like to catch her but I am rather enjoying seeing her around. My only wish is that she was a buck. I don't want to lose another rabbit and end up with a feral rabbit population!

It's kind of prairie doggish... lol

I wish we knew exactly what happened.

I"m assuming that it was an overgrooming by it's mother at birth. It has been like that since birth and if I recall correctly the ear area was a bit bloody so I don't think it was born like that. The litter that was born a week earlier ended up cold and scattered around the nest and all chewed up. Someone suggested rats but I haven't seen any around here and the colony is very snug although I suppose a rat could squeeze in where you might think they couldn't.
