South is due on August 3, was bred to another NZW.

She's getting extremely fat and returning to her Mean Doe ways. She has, fortunately, stopped charging my hand. She just "makes farting noises", as my daughters describe it. I gave her a little tin can and let her get her aggression out on that. I roll it around her cage for a while for her to go after, and when she's had enough she's quite calm.

:bounce: Today is day 28, so I'm expecting kits any time now. :bounce:

Hopefully soon. She's VERY mean this morning. Her nestbox was all fluffed up with new hay, so I reached my hand toward it and she started barking. Had to maneuver in really carefully just to give her a pet. Crazy doe, but I can't believe she'd go through all these machinations and have missed.

We have fur pulling and nest building!

"What are you looking at?!"

I opened her cage long enough to refill her water bowl. She still had half a serving of food, and plenty of hay, so I'm just gonna leave her alone. And sit back to watch.

I just found her in her nest, ripping fur out furiously. She was surrounded by a huge poof of white. Poor thing is going to be bald by the time she's done!

__________ Sat Aug 03, 2013 11:51 am __________

At least 5 (looked like 6) little pink popples!!
:mbounce:

I didn't do too much poking around because she'd JUST kindled. I had to check because she had so much blood on her. But yes, babies!!

:thewave: :thewave:

LOL I was shocked the last time my doe kindled... she pulled so much and it wasn't even that cold... I also watched her have her kits. If your doe is doing this, you might want to stay.

LoL, OBTB. That's what she was doing earlier, except inside the box so I couldn't see. She has a huge naked patch on her neck. She was furiously pulling all morning.

And man oh man is she unhappy about be reaching in to pet her. That girl's got some BIG nasty looking teeth!

LOL, this is going to sound silly, but are you sure she doesn't have mites? Or has it only been there since yesterday?

Just this morning. She was tending her nest before - fluffing up the hay, making a little spot to kindle - then this morning it looked like she'd blown half her coat off. I opened her cage to give her more water and she shot me a death glare with a mouthful of fur and hay.

Kind of reminds me of how I was when I went into labor...

Happy she had them, she sure looked unhappy in the picture with her furry haystach.

How long should I give her before I take the nestbox out to do a proper count? And what should I give her as a distraction treat - a bunch of dandelion leaves and lambs quarters, perhaps? Maybe some banana?

__________ Sat Aug 03, 2013 3:13 pm __________

I couldn't resist. She was chowing down on her feed and looked less...murderous.

EIGHT!

She had 8 in her first litter. No runty looking ones, either. They're all a wee bit skinny, but they're all clean and shiny. Fingers crossed she's a good mama.
