I try to use names of plants, ones they eat. Sometimes the name doesn't always suit or stick though, so sometimes anything goes!
If I have a youngster that I'm keeping for breeding, I do try to link the name to their mother - so I have Blackberry and Midnight as my rex does, and Blackberry had a chinchilla baby buck that I've kept, so he's Bramble, as blackberries grow in a bramble. Then Midnight had a daughter that I kept, named her Shadow - you get lots of shadows at midnight from the moon.
Then I've also got Lucerne (Lucy), who is Borage's daughter, they don't really link except Lucy is prickly in nature like the borage plant, while Borage himself is sweet natured like the edible flowers.

I started with NZ reds so my first doe was named Cinnamon. Continued the pattern with Nutmeg, Cumin, and Sumac. My sister decided to call the rabbit barn "the spice rack" and we've continued the trend since expanding our colors. My black buck is named Nori and we're getting a blue doe who will be dubbed Poppyseed. I also try not to have two does with the same first initial so it's easier to mark the kits. The plan is when I run out of spices I'll move on to edible mushrooms (we also have a mushroom section of our farm).
