Well, this is what happens when SOME member refers to a breed as jewelry in a jewelry box...

I got me some Standard Rex today! (Thank you MSD for the imagery of jewels to push me over).

A Black buck - no pedigree and a Lilac doe - pedigree coming in the mail.

I don't want Rex....I don't want Rex...I don't want Rex... OOOHHH man who am I fooling....that lilac is beautiful...and the black is so soft looking. It is amazing how you can tell in a picture how soft they are...You guys are killin me...

Well, SOME people take a bit more convincing than others.

*Sniff!*

As if Rex need any pushing at all, for those who have any sense to speak of.

(At least MY kind of sense, lol.)

***AHEM!!!***

Congrats, Zinnia!

The black buck (who I suspect may be a Seal) has a lot of guard hairs, and your little doe looks like her coat has nice texture but lacks in density- so this pairing is probably a good one to balance out those faults. Guard hairs give density, but too many make the coat feel harsh, so you are striving for a balance there. :)

Keep in mind also that they are both in junior coats so can change a lot depending on their lines.

Please don't take my above comments negatively- Rex are a hard breed with their inherent conformation issues (low/long shoulders, etc,.) and their sporadic coat quality.

They are both adorable and look in very good health. I think you have made a great start, and their personalities will seal the deal for you!

Wow! MSD, I'm amazed by you! :p

My first thought with this Black buck was that maybe Black in Rex has a tawny undertone?? Pretty sure you're right about him being Seal! Second thought was that his fur was not very soft. So... I'm really just playing with these guys. I actually have another buck - a pet my neice had to give up moving into her new apartment. He's got to be a mini Rex and he has his jewels ;) . Though small, he's very, very soft. I'll need to post a picture. He's a couple years old. I plan on trying to bred him to this new doe, too. That would be a softer pairing, but smaller offspring. He's broken... not sure what color, though. Pictures later today. Maybe you will be able to feel his coat through the screen, too!

Gorgeous! That lilac!!

I cannot find breeders here!
I found one potential and I saw her stock at a show and they were lovely.
But it seems that it will be a challenge!

The breeder just emailed that she had this batch in a window, so it may be sun-discoloring. She says he comes from a long line of Black. So, I hope I do really have Black! I can take better pics of his fur, soon. Those ears! I love those Rex ears!

__________ Fri Jun 26, 2015 8:04 am __________

The Lilac is too cute. She's dainty and velvet-like. I need a name!

Periwinkle? :)

Awwwww!

__________ Fri Jun 26, 2015 9:30 am __________

I've added pics of Lapin, the pet rabbit.... What breed is he? Got him from my niece as she couldn't take him when she moved. I see he needs his nails clipped. Got him a few weeks ago and he's really put on weight! He weighs 3.3 pounds and I think he's over a year, maybe up to two years old. He has VERY dense, luscious fur. Can you FEEL his fur through the screen?? I assumed mini-Rex, but I don't know. Mini-Satin? What color is he? Chestnut, Charlie... Could he be a cross? Thanks!!
