j clip or ring size

I'm using the metal shelving panels often used for guinea pig and pet rabbit cages and my structures are surpassing the ability of cable ties to hold things together irregardless of the quality of cable ties I get. I bought some j clips from the feed store several years back and found the standard size they sell only goes about halfway around the connections. I measured it today as 1/8" wire so each end connections is 1/8" x 1/4". Is there a size of jclip or rings that would work? I also need a second size for the middle wires of the panels which are about half as thick.
