Matilda kindled last night.

THIRTEEN!!

She's the one who refuses to use a nesting box so she kindles on the floor of her hutch, which is fine. It's solid in that one area so it's not a big deal. The kits do well staying together for warmth and security.

This litter was birthed all over the hutch so I had to keep digging through all the fur and hay to find them. The first few were together in a group of three. I was a bit disappointed to only have three. Then I saw something pink moving and found more. That's when the digging began in earnest. LOL Here's two... oh, found three more! Wait, here's another.... and another.... etc. It was like Christmas morning. LOL I couldn't believe it!

Some of these are so so tiny though. Probably half the size of others. It's almost like they were conceived on two different days or a week apart or something. I'll probably rotate these babies in and out of nesting box for feeding. If Bertha ever kindles (still no babies) and has a smaller litter, I'll foster some to her.

Pictures in a bit. I'm still in my PJs and need to feed the kids some breakfast.

Got my 12 year old almost-step-daughter to fry eggs and make toast for the kids while I delivered frozen water bottles to all the rabbits. WINNING!!

Here are a few. It's hard to tell with all the fur, but some of them are so teeny!! This is the first time I've actually been a little nervous about handling them. They seem so so frail. But they're all fed, so they have a good start.

I put a small water bottle near them, pulled a lot of the fur off them and then put a frozen 2 liter at the opposite end of the hutch for Matilda and to help cool the air. I put a board under the pen roof so there's an additional air gap to help circulate cooler air.

I didn't want to completely remove the fur or she'd pull more so I have pushed it away from them. I'll be checking on them every hour or so today to make sure it doesn't get too hot for them. If it does, inside they'll come! The kids will be thrilled if I bring them into the house.

That's a lot of popples!

What a good caretaker you are, giving them their very own little water bottle! :)

Very nice....I've got 13 too but from 2 mothers!!! Best of luck with them!!
