The problem I have with the Hollands is the dwarf gene, I chose Mini lops because they don't carry it and because I don't want any peanuts showing up in my nest box!

I know there are less than scrupulous breeders who forge pedigrees or lie about the breed but it doesn't make it right, so please be honest about your fuzzy Hollands.

Okay, well thanks everyone. I was surprised to find a fuzzy kit since I have bred this buck/doe pair before and nothing showed up in previous litters... I wondered about this little guy, because of all the poo he was getting stuck to his butt (and his adorable poofiness  )... I have been calling him Gandalf the Grey  since he has long grey hair just like that Lord of the Rings wizard (and his brother I've been calling Frodo) :D . I won't cull either buck or doe merely for carrying the fuzzy gene as long as they have some other benefit to me, but at least now I know what to keep an eye out for. For now I'm fine with having to pet out a fuzzy kit every once in a while, but both of these rabbits are going to be retiring from my rabbitry in the next few months anyway. The buck is going to be fixed and become my family's pet and the doe is going to be sold.
I'll make sure to put that on my pedigree for him now that I know, and I'll also be adding a few extra notes to the parents pedigrees as well!

I kept a doe (Mimi) from their last litter together, and I wondering now, if I should breed her back to Teddy (her sire and the fuzzy's) to see if she happened to get the fuzzy gene from her parents (she is a full sibling to the fuzzy)? I wanted to keep her and find a new buck to breed her to, but now that I know there is a chance that she could be carrying the wool gene, should I change those plans? :?

I actually am not too worried about the difficulty of breeding Hollands, since to me the Holland part of my rabbitry will always be small and more hobby-based than show-based (I kind of fell in love the tiny but massive Hollands, xD!). The other thing for me is that the buck I have right now is a false dwarf so I don't have to worry about peanut babies for the moment (though my does are true dwarfs).

__________ Tue Jan 29, 2013 6:33 pm __________

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
