I had a litter of rabbits born this Sunday and tonight this litter is going to endure a low of 37 degrees. Can this not two day old litter survive? The doe built a good nest and it has a decent amount of fur in it. It is a solid bottom box with a thick layer of shavings and straw?

__________ Mon Oct 08, 2012 10:11 pm __________

Should I bring them in?

Should I bring them in?

As long as they are in a good nest with plenty of fur and not exposed to any drafts or wet, they should be fine. The temp in a nest can reach 105f when it is freezing outside. But, If it makes you feel better, bring them in....

OneAcreFarm is right -- you'd be amazed at what the little guys can survive in that cozy little nest. As long as the nest is dry and draft-free and has plenty of good material, they shouldn't have a problem at all. :)

If you don't feel a "decent amount" of fur is enough, you can always add stuff like dryer lint or teased cotton balls.

But yeah, just stick your hand into the wiggly ball of popples in there when it's cold. You'll be surprised how warm they are!

The best is taking a nest box out an feeling the warmth from the bottom on the box.
