I'm thinking about pulling my military BDU shirts out of retirement to cover my upper body when I'm handling rabbits. That fabric is darn thick and heavy.

I so can relate! Between the rabbits and the rest of the farm, I am always wearing some battle scar or another.

I actually sliced a wrist when butchering rabbits about 15 years ago. I was in my very early 20's and still lacked good sense at times. I was using an Exacto knife to cut the joint tendons on a hind leg and it slipped off the bone, and straight along my left wrist. Laid it open pretty good but didn't sever anything important (guardian angel working overtime in that situation!)

Fortunately I still had rabbit hair all over me when I got to the ER, but I did get asked some 'questions'. Got billed $900 for 7 stitches.

Ooh! what a great idea! I have some of those too! You must have been in the Army if you call them BDU's... :) I was a 91B/91D...what was your MOS?

OAF, are you sure WE are not long-lost sisters, as well? Actually, I was in the AF. AFSC 2524 (Meteorologist). Missed going downrange during Desert Shield/Desert Storm by ][ that much.

We might be....*cue song* "We are family....I got all my Sistah's with me!"

I started in the Army Reserves, missed Bosnia by "that much" and then switched to the AFR...I was a AFSC X4N0X1, or "Flight Medic", we did air evacuation type work on DC-10s, etc...

:p I also have plenty of battle scars and wear them proudly!!

My "cranky" doe accidently got my chin today with a front claw (yeah, I need to trim the claws  ) and it actually "poked" into the skin and I was bleeding pretty good there for a minute

I don't use bandaids either, just wash it out and go on ... if it does get red/infected, I just scrub the scab off in the shower and may dab a little triple antibiotic on it.

I also think it is hilarious when I shake a man's hands and mine are tougher than theirs  And my heels could scrape the skin off if I happen to "get you" wrong  I am a barefoot gal, and that's all there is to it :D I spend plenty of time making sure I have a "barefoot" lawn

i get that too from my moms dog! lol when we play she uses her lil "thumb toes" dew claws and always scratches my right arm lol i have a new one today, 2 from last week and 2 scars that never went away from last year. and shes just a shih-apso. animals and their claws man, and people actually thought happy 24 frikkin 7 shelby cut herself haha go figure.

I'm always scratched up by something too, and my arms are about 10 shades darker than the rest of me... sunscreen? What's that?

It's embarrassing to shake hands with city slickers- even the men have skin like a baby's butt, and I'm more on par with 60 grit sandpaper. I have, in fact, used sandpaper to smooth my hands in the past prior to attending a celebrity-laden fund raiser in hoity-toity Hidden Hills, CA. Other times too, to be honest. Industrial strength manicure, anyone?
   I used to BE that city-slicker. Now look at me... cuts up to my neck and blistered hands.

:) I was also asked about this tonight. we went out to eat and my mom said what happened to yor hand i said well thats from a cage and that ones from a rabbit and thats from a rabbit cage rabbit rabbit etc,,,etc,,, my friend spoke up and said thats what i would do is get something thats scratches me. I said u would if u loved rabbits as much as I do!! :x

I had to send all of my rabbits off when I went in for a bypass. When the gal showed up to get them I asked her,"You're sure you know how to care for rabbits?" She just pulled up her sleeve so I could see the scars. "Yep" I said, "You know rabbits".
