Identifying foster kits

I have a question, I need to identify some kits that I need to put in with a foster mother. All kits are basically the same color. I have tried using a sharpie in the ear, but that only lasts a day or so. Is there anything else I could use or will I have to put an actual tattoo dot in the ear? Thanks for any advice.

I have heard of people marking animals with nail polish.

If you have any Blu-Kote, that will stain the fur for a lo-o-ng time. I had a buck that got fungus on his back from lying under a leaky water valve, and treated him with Blu-Kote. His show career was over until he molted his coat out. :x
