I have been debating on retiring my buck, he is about 10 months old now, but he has been pardoned...almost.
He has bred our Flemish twice with no results and our Californian mix twice with almost no results..until...yesterday I put in the nest box and this morning she had pulled fur and has started to make a nest..she should deliver on Thursday if all goes as planned.

I was chalking it up to the weather and lack of daylight, so was gonna at least keep him till spring for a final couple servicings, but if she delivers I know all is well with him.

A young buck like that shouldn't be having issues. Maybe the fault lies with the does?

I checked on the doe this morning and nothing, but when I got home from work I noticed more fur had been pulled and a little blood and without disturbing the nest appears to be 2 babies about 3 inches long and fat. Kinda surprising because she is a really small doe. All appears to be healthy.

I didn't want to disturb the nest too much, so I will wait till tomorrow am before really checking.

Our temps normally are freezing at night but with this warm spell we are in the 60 during the days and high 40's at night..that's comforting.

I always check the nest right away, giving a treat to the doe to keep her busy. I remove any uneaten placentas, dead kits, and wet bedding, and replace the soiled bedding with fresh.

Congratulations on the litter! :p

Checked the nest this morning to get everything cleaned up and there were 4 popples. 3 pink and 1 black. Checked it tonight and they are all doing well, warm and cozy with fur just starting to sprout. Mom is doing well also.
Still surprised at how small she is yet the babies were so big, but appears everything is in order so I am happy.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear all the kits are doing well. And Mom too!
