After my daughter went off to college I was feeling kind of sad. A friend of a friend is a police officer and she trapped this dog a few months ago after the family moved and abandoned the dog. She was/is quite shy.

The very SECOND this dog was placed into my arms we "clicked". The police officer who had been fostering her started crying because she knew what a perfect fit it was.

I brought the dog inside the house to meet my husband and he took one look at me holding her and said "okay".

She has been by my side pretty much 100% of the time since I brought her home. When I've been sick, she's been on the bed foregoing food/water/potty. Steve (my husband) said when I was at my sickest and couldn't leave the bed, he tried everything to entice her out of the room but she refused to leave and actually growled at him when he tried to move her.

I took her to the vet as she's not had any vet care in her life and she does have a very mild case of heartworms, which we're working on. Otherwise totally healthy. I still will be getting her spayed eventually. She's been with me now for about a month and I can't imagine my life without her.

I NEVER thought I would have a jack russell mix. Ever. Frankly I've always hated them. But she just gets me and is so good.

It might not be a coincidence that you've developed Lepto at the same time you got your pup, she might be the source :(

The strain of Lepto that likes humans often doesn't make dogs sick so she could have the bacteria without symptoms and could re-infect you once you're done your meds.

Of course you could have been infected in lots of other ways but I'd double check with your vet to be sure she isn't shedding the bacteria in her saliva or urine.

Already checked! :) LOL you and my husband were thinking the same thing.

__________ Thu Sep 25, 2014 1:46 pm __________

Her CBC was normal.

I don't know. Kind of looks to me like Zoey and Dayna might be a little bit spoiled in those pictures. ;) Glad something "good" has finally happened for you. You've certainly had your "bad" come in threes recently.

I truly believe, having one myself, that some dogs just know when they have been saved, and they bond without limits to the person who saves them.

That pic of the two of you brought a huge smile to my face. I can just picture Zoey sighing a big doggy sigh and thinking to herself, "Finally."
