I reread the litter postings, one was black and black otter carrying chocolate the other was black and black otter carrying dilute. I'm not hugely worried about unshowable colours, they go straight to the freezer and I'm wanting to try my hand at tanning my own hides for a twined blanket.
I don't think I have any self carriers, in all the litters I've had so far I've had exactly ONE black kit and I had to cull it and the doe that litter came from.

Your otter IS a self. It is just carrying the t modifier to make it an otter. If you do ever decide to show you probably will have to start with different stock as messing up the colors makes it hard to get good color later which carries a lot of points.

Otter is not a self, it is a tan gene at. The tan gene, at, is the second gene in order of dominance on the A locus, A, at, a, being agouti, tan and self. As the second gene in the A series, Otter can carry self. Otter comes in four acceptable colors, black, blue, chocolate and lilac. My otters carry black, dilute and chocolate. Otters are hard to mess up, and can be sucessful bred to pretty much anything, except ee, and shaded varieties.

Actually I do show some and I do fine, outside of the size issue. I don't sell my rabbits, or seldom, so I'm not worried about off colours, type and fur come first.

__________ Sat Mar 09, 2013 7:12 pm __________

Tomorrow can't come soon enough :)
I'm heading down to Calgary to pick up my new buck, a chocolate otter. The breeder and I have been corresponding, she had mentioned someone else was interested in the chocolate chin and she had just had a chocolate otter buck returned. Since the otter fits better than the chin into my plans, I jumped at the chance. I promise, pice tomorrow :D
Just don't expect them early in the day, Calgary is four hours from here one way

Congrats.

As much as I love color rules, my chins DO carry chocolate, and my Rex breeder sold the choco chin to a guy developing Velveteen lops. If I breed close enough, I have no doubt that they will start popping up after a while. It is a pretty color.

Mine do too, I had a chocolate chin buck that was littermate to the does I have now. I think the only colours I DIDN'T get in that litter were Cal and torts.
