How much should I expect of my kids?

I came from a family where we all were expected to help around the house adn watch out for eachother. With a single working mum with no child suport we were very much needed as helpers. We all learned to wash dishes, to cook adn to clean up after ourselves and to take care of any animals we had.

My hubby was brought up that kids didnt ask to be brought into the world and nothing should be expected of them, not even cleaning their own rooms.

You can see the problem we now have with three kids of our own

Fighting hubby all the way, the kids are expected to feed and water all the animals every day adn to get their own breakfast in the morning while not making too much of a mess doing it.

And when hubbs isnt home they (7, 8 and 10) also WILLINGLY clean bathrooms, their own rooms, the living room and help make and eat dinner. OF COURSE it would all go faster and easier if I jsut did it myself but if they dont learn now how to do it and to be proud of a job well done they will go out into the world having to learn it all then while also learning to be on their own and deal with their own problems.

That is just waaaay too much to ask of them, its better and easier to teach them now when its all fun or at least not too bad

Being part of the day to day running of the house makes them PROUD of it and having a say in things like decorating their rooms or helping to choose the next color the living room is going to be makes them feel part of the family.

So no, I dont think you are asking too much.

In a team everyone pitches in to get the job done.
