My baby Jersey Woolies will be 2 weeks on Thursday and Friday. I am wondering if it is to early to sex them at that age? Or if there is much risk of injury in doing so at 2 weeks old? I sure don't want to take a chance of hurting my little babies. :)

I am super curious as to the gender of those sables and sable(?) marten though. :p

All of the Rex and Flemish are about a week old now so they will wait another week for sure.

Thats the one. I am really good at it once they are 8 weeks old. But I want to know Now!! lol

I should get the hang of it fairly quickly because I used to raise gerbils and mice for pet stores and was really good at sexing those. :)

Once my house warms up from my earlier screw up maybe Ill have to get some nest boxes out and see what I have.

I went to look at one yesterday and got peed on. Right in my eye. Good thing I was quick to close my eyes. lol

HATE when that happens....

Lol! Ive never been peed on in the eye before. I normally sex my jw at 1 week old or even less. I am impatient. :D

I sex them at birth, and keep a record. I do it again at a week, then two weeks, then I don't bother them again until somewhere between 4-6 weeks when I weight them. I have only been wrong twice, so far, and one was the split penis litter. Thought it was a girl it was a buck.

I find it easier to sex them when they don't have fur yet than the 2-8week range. I don't like to guarantee sex until 3 months when the penis will start to pop out but I can usually tell by 6-8weeks if they didn't have any defining features when born to keep track of.

Well I am half blind and half deaf so I have to get pretty darn close to be able to see much of the little bunny parts these days. And That little bugger peed right in my face. Seriously!!! I looked at all of them but couldn't be sure on any of them. I Believe the black is a doe and I believe the sable marten is a doe. I believe a couple of the sables are bucks and one a doe. With the pointed white litter I believe I have three bucks and a doe but again not sure.

I will look again each week and see how it changes. They are so darn cute. :)

I'm gonna be looking for a nice small shaded buck with tiny ears here pretty soon. And another pointed white buck with tiny ears as well. I have great body type in my rabbits but to put together a total package I would like to bring my ear size down and also my overall body size a bit as well. My buck is a good size but my does are both big. And I would like to have a second buck for each color group as well. :) So my search will begin as soon as we are moved in the spring. Its not worth the travel expense right now. I'm to far from everywhere.

I tried sexing my first litter at 4 weeks....didn't work so I tried 5 weeks...got the exact opposite outcome so I waited a few more days and ended up somewhere in the middle lol. So for me, I will wait until about 5 weeks and I'm sure once I get used to it I'll start it earlier and earlier. Soon it will be the when the are first born that I'll pick them up and sex them right :D

I believe It is easier at birth and I should have done it then. I have them out every day so maybe Ill look and pay closer attention with my glasses on the next time. I hope the sable marten is a girl though. Cuz I want to keep it!!!! And I can hope for a nice sable buck in the litter as well.

There is a breeder in your state working with pointed whites. Hers are gorgeous and have nice dark points. I got my convention doe from her. Nancy hancher of chais rabbitry.

Kelsey Schultz breeds Pointed Whites as well in Michigan. She won BOSB at convention this year with her AOV buck. I just need to decide if I want to stick with her line for my pointed whites or add some new blood. I will have to keep Nancy in mind as well when I start looking. :) The hard thing will be getting the smoke pearl buck I am wanting for my shadeds.
