I have a pair of broken black rescue lop bucks, but no idea what kind of lop they are.

Surprisingly, they came with no actual health issues, other than overgrown nails, and they're turning out to be rather sweet boys, well behaved, not nippy or anything(I was told they were abused, and expected they would take a lot of time to work through their issues.)

I would like to start advertising the better behaved of the two soon, but wanted to know if they are hollands or minis, so I could correctly advertise them.

I don't have weights on them yet, I simply haven't had time to get that done.

I don't even have photos of them yet(winter is coming, I am trying to get all of my spare cages out of the yard, cleaned and put up for use.)

I did some google searching, and found nothing that was helpful in how to visually identify a holland or a mini lop. I did discover that they both probably have slipped crowns, which is NBD, as I am going to be selling them to pet homes anyway.

Anyone have any tips on how to tell the difference, beyond weight, since a fat holland can easily cross into mini lop weight category?

I will do my best to get photos of them soon. They're really freaking cute, lol.

Do they look dwarf? Shortish ears, cobby heads? Mini lops lack the gene.

Do the have a preferred stance? Not definitive but generally upright like a Lionhead = Holland or crouched like a meat breed or "a basketball with a head"= Mini

If it were me I'd advertise as Hollands or Holland crosses since that breed is SO popular around here. People think Mini lops are a medium size breed but the range is 3.5lb to 6.5lb and I know of MANY pedigreed Hollands that are 5+ pounds :(

Since they are rescues, be honest and say you cannot know for certain but they are ___lbs so you think Holland / Mini

I don't intend to advertise them as purebred anything, I find it a little offensive that you seem to assume I'd lie, or try to deceive people.

I started out googling it because I was interested in knowing which they were, and how to tell the difference, and found a surprising lack of information on how to tell the difference, which is why I asked here, since others probably have had the same question.

It's hard to tell people's intent over the Internet, but I interpreted Dood's message as encouraging you not to obsess over a perfect identification of their breed. Maybe I read him (or you) incorrectly, but I read his response as being friendly in this way.

When a breed is popular *and* you don't know what you have in front of you *and* it could be 1) a mix of X and Y or 2) X alone or 3) Y alone, why not cover all bases and say "could be an X and Y mix; I'm not sure, but it weighs __"?

JMO.

I read Dood's response the same way. just an encouragement to state.. holland or mini cross. It's so hard to say what they are when they are rescues.

Generally I find that pet quality hollands have a more narrow head and short/cobby to Long and thin ears. Fuller lop to the surface ears tend to be mini lop ...those poor HL ears tend to just look thin and long.
