I pay 15 a bale I would love to have your deal on hay caroline. I have 7 horses on top of the rabbits. I just cant save up enough money to buy a load at a time, and i dont have the storage. I dint like the waste eather, I have regular J feedres all I do is squish the hay between the wire and the mettle side of the feeder. They have to work a little to get some of the stalk but the flake falls right on top of the pellets. I cought myself finger raking the bits of stalk and grass from under neath

We have 6 horses and six goats plus the rabbits. I rake up all of the waste hay and feed it to the goats. We paid $13 a bale, but we bought around 200 bales. Last spring I was paying $18.50 a bale. :x

We made hay dispensers much like Oceanrose, but they hook to the cage door. I sometimes remove them when I need to pull out a rabbit.

I've been paying $15 per 75lb bale of Alicia coastal Bermuda. Out here, I think I can get hay cheaper. Only problem is, I might have to buy a large round bale. Not quite sure how I'll get it home, or where I'll put it. I'll think of something. I want to pay less for hay!

I made my hay racks out of 1" X 1" wire, and I hang them from the outside of the cage, securing them with 6" springs. I figure that I will get waste no matter how I go about it, but it's most convenient to feed hay this way and it works for the rabbits as well.

I use home made hay-racks to feed hay.
Thee reason for this is: Hay tossed onto the cage floor
will easily become soiled with Feces and urine.
Rabbits will eat this soiled hay which will eventually
lead to disease. A Hay-rack is just a much safer bet.
As always, JMPO.

How funny, I rake up what the goats & sheep waste and feed it to the rabbits

 I can see that- I don't remember how wasteful my sheep were, but goats will leave all the stems if you feed them too generously. I decided I was done with that, so they get the bunny leavings, which has a lot of leaf, which they prefer anyway. As a bonus, they also get the grain fines that fall out of the J feeders, and the grain that some of the buns in the growout pens scratch out. :)

My chickens get the "waste hay" from the rabbits. The ducks get the fines from the rabbit pellets. The chickens and ducks are always watching to see what the others are getting... Yesterday, Mother's chi/pom mix stole a kale stalk from the chickens through the fence. Everyone seems to want what the others have!

How do you get the waste hay and grains without getting it soiled by the manure that is under it?

On the dropping boards it is easy to avoid the poo piles- I just pull the hay and grains toward me and let it fall in a bag. Underneath the bottom row the hay falls at the front of the cages and most of the rabbits use the back corners to potty. There is more waste mixed with the hay under the growout pens since there are so many buns in each cage. I don't really worry about any bunny berries or peed on hay because the goats just pick through it.

FWIW, you posted a pic a few months back of how to make wire racks, and that is where I got the design for mine at, so thanks. :artist:

Here's some pics I took today to show what we've been doing. We can put it on the floor or hang it.
(Sorry about the glare. The sun was really bright reflecting off the snow.)

This doe will only eat hers when it is hanging.

We try to move them around, kinda like the zoo does things for enrichment for the animals. Some of the rabbits are insistent on where they want their hay. Funny thing, if I don't give them hay and they want it, they pick up the hay rack and bang it against the floor or wall to get our attention.

Mmmmmmm. Snooooooowwwwww!!!!!

We got over 7" yesterday! I do live in Utah, but I'm not in the mountains.

In 22 years in the USAF, I worked flightline maintenance as a fighter crew chief and was stationed at Plattsburgh AFB, NY (now closed, but located approximately 60 miles south of Montreal, Quebec Canada); 1 year in Iceland (yes, it does get extremely cold there); 6 years in Anchorage, Alaska (it's Alaska, nuff said); and 27 months in England (the houses there aren't insulated, and it gets very cold at night over there for much of the year).

One could correctly state that I'm climatized to cold weather. I miss having snow every year.

Salute!! My dad was 21 years enlisted (Ground Safety Officer). I say I was in for 14 as "USF Brat". I was born at Keesler, AFB, Biloxi. We were at Elmendorf, AFB Alaska, Lowery AFB, Denver (now closed, sadly) twice, McGuire AFB New Jersey (not my fav place), Moody AFB, Georgia, and he was set to Thailand for a year (1971--Vietnam War was still going on...). Before me, he was also in Iceland and my brother was born in Luke AFB, Arizona.

But, I always say, you can take the girl out of the South, but you can never take the South out of the girl. My maternal lineage is long time Southern so...nuff said.

Oh, okay! Thanks!

I'm doing the same thing as Terri. Got a free one from Frosted, tried to figure out what to do with it. When I was in TSC the other day and saw them for $1.49, it came to me.
