How did you decide to have rabbits?

My parents got us kids Easter Bunnies. I was hooked forever.

My parents taught us to be responsible and to take good care of them. They were pets and not toys.

Well, for me the Rabbits are therapy. I've some inherent issues with depressions, after a little breakdown about 10 years ago I got a medical therapy that wasn't working, and I had no intention or energy to be subject for a long try-and-error treatment with lots of side effects like lifelong dependency on drugs.

So I needed some reason to get up in the morning and not just keep staring at the ceiling til noon. I always wanted animals, but I have not enough time for a dog and a cat simply wouldn't do it. My grandparents had meat rabbits, and after I harvested 2 wild rabbits in my garden to see if I can handle it. I thought since I love beeing outdoors that raising my own meat buns would be a good idea. Little did I know about what a bundle rabbits are

Well, it works, they keep me occupied and going and give so much in return, they are so much more than lifestock (which is kind of a problem sometimes :? ). I simply need something to care for to be happy and unlike a dog rabbits aren't too dependent on me and live their own lives.

Now two rabbits free roam my house, my two breeding does and my two pensioneers are outdoor rabbits.
There is that issue that leaving home is more difficult, but I have 2 teens in my road I pay for caring for my rabbits, and two other breeders in my road as backup if anything goes wrong, but I'm still reluctant to use that options, asking for help isn't something that's easy for me.

the way rabbits can bite and scratch and kick I'm surprised they are given as fun pets. took me a while to bond with mine before they didn't scratch me. now i carry them around but i still watch the doe and be careful. the buck would let me carry him around all day but she will rip you a new one.

I don't really remember why or how I got interested in rabbits. I had won a rabbit at a fair and it died shortly after but I had already gotten attached. Later, when I was married, we got rabbits because I wanted to be able to grow our own meat and now I have pedigreed rabbits and want to get more involved with showing.

My daughter wanted a rabbit, so I got her one. A few months later she told me to get my own rabbit, lol. So I did. And it's now years later....

I started just over a year ago. I had two bucks given to me and a bit later, my son gave me two does. Well that was about a hundred rabbits ago. I absolutely love raising my rabbits. They are for meat but I also sell breeding trios and pets. I now have several mixes, along with purebred Flemish Giant and Rex.
It is hard to pinpoint a favorite. I have a little 7 lb. 4 oz. doe that is NZ/Chinchilla. She produced an amazing litter. (Chin/NZ/Rex) I kept two of her kits, now 16 weeks old. The doe is over 8 pounds and the buck is over 7 pounds. Pretty sweet for "Meat Mutts".
My biggest problem, I keep running out of cages. LOL

Hi. The white and brown, I'm assuming it's a doe, in your profile pic looks like my doe. Question: what do you call that color and is that a broken or??? My doe had black/white and pure black kits, 14 of them. She's pregnant now so will most likely get the same thing. Buck is a California white. He's a show bunny but I don't show. I'm busy enough.

I won a what looked like a palomino harlequin mix at a fair. Her name was Butterscotch. She was outside for a while til I tried litter box training her and hopefully keep her inside. That was about 2-3 years ago. She passed away in her outside hutch and I was so close to being able to bring her inside forever. Pretty sure she sadly had a heart attack from a fox or other animal. Now that I think back I’m pretty sure she was male lol everything points to it lol.

Anyway, I asked my dad if I could get more, and he suggested meat rabbits so they could at least have a purpose lol. I got two New Zealand’s which we learned they were overweight. When they got mixed breed rabbits which I still have but, looking to have all purebred.

All the breeders I have:
I have a trio of purebred Silver Martens. I have Aragorn, a black meat mutt buck. Miffy, harlequin rex doe(she isn’t purebred). Their daughter who has had 2 litters for me which I am keeping a Lionhead mix from her recent litter for a friend her name is Avalon. And Quigley a booted black and white buck. His mom was a Californian/NewZealand and his dad is Aragorn.

My barn is all sorts of crazy right now but I love it. Looking into getting into English Lops, are they as sweet as everyone says they are?

I started with rabbits a few years ago so I could have wonderful fertilizer for my garden. Then last year I decided to try raising meat rabbits since I'm on less than a quarter acre and don't have the space for meat chickens. I have 5 hens for eggs but that's the most I can fit here. Rabbits are an absolute joy to raise. Even after I move onto more land I plan to expand the rabbitry.

For me it all started me wanting chickens and I went to a farm to buy some chickens that were on sale for dirt cheap and I came home with rabbits instead. It all began from there.
