This is Horace our new Lilac buck. We're just starting to learn to pose, more getting him used to being on a table then anything else. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

He seems to have ok shoulders, but at you follow him down to the loin and hips, his hips protrude. I feel he is weak in his loin and catchy in the hips. He is also looks pinched in his hindquarter.

Here's a helpful link with pictures about hindquarters:http://s4.zetaboards.com/Rabbit_Addict/topic/8891975/1/

Hope this helps :)

Thanks guys, you've just confirmed my thoughts. I'll post the doe in a day or two to see what ya'll think of her. I'll be getting another pair in Sept so I'll look for a wider back end. Different breeder, trying to ensure some diversity since they're a rare breed.

__________ Tue Jun 25, 2013 11:56 am __________

Also he's just 12 weeks now so, will good diet and exercise improve some of his width?

With diet and exercise, his shoulders will probably grow stronger and his loin might fill a little, but not much will change because he's already built the way he is. If he doesn't have promising width now, he won't do much now at 12 weeks. I've had depth develop (Have decent depth to begin with) over time, but not width. You either got it, or you don't. Faults like pinched hindquarters won't change over time. The biggest advice I have to offer is start from the back and then move forward with your breeding program. Eventually it will all come together. It will be hard because, yes, he is a rare breed, so you are going to have to select some wow factor purchases. Lilacs are a really beautiful breed!
