Our approx. 2 yr old Holland Lop doe, which has never been bred before, was supposed to have babies today.

She started scratching (digging) in her cage about 2 weeks ago, we put the nest box in about 7 days ago, she's been carrying hay (hay mustache) around for about the last 6 days, and has also pulled fur for the past 5 days.

Today around 10:30AM she was pulling fur like CRAZY and filling the nest box. We thought it was going to happen at any time....... That was 9 hours ago......... and still nothing. She drinks water like crazy, but she doesn't seem interested in going back in the nest box and having her babies. It's now 8PM and nothing.

Could this be a false pregnancy? If so, why would she be going absolutely crazy pulling fur earlier today?

Today is day 31.

Help....................

Thank you!

I'm pretty sure going a day or two past 31 days isn't out of the ordinary. One of our does has gone over 31 days about half the time. Each time she had monster litters. Ours tends not to pull fur until right before she kindles though.

If it was me I would just keep a close eye on her in case she goes into distress but otherwise I think she will kindle when she feels its time.

I would just wait maybe something spooked her or she is just waiting until night/early morning. That's when all of mine seem to have babies. You can also give her a Tums maybe she needs some calcium.

11:15PM and still no babies (or her even in the nest box).

I broke up a tums into 4 pcs. and put it in her food dish.... but she's not interested in it. How to I get calcium in her????

I also gave her some Timothy Hay and she's eating that down like it's candy.

In the past 24 hours she sure has taken an interest in chewing on the sides of my OSB nest box.

-- Thu Jul 10, 2014 10:25 pm --

How can I tell if she goes into "distress" and what do we do if that happens?

I'm not as experienced as others on here but personally I don't think I'd worry unless day 33 comes along with no babies.

As far as the Tums goes, she should eat it if she needs it. If she's not eating it, she may not really need it right now. I'd make sure she always has one available.

:clover:

Its 5AM day 32.

She ate the Tums but still no babies.

She's driving me crazy with lost sleep. I can't wait 2 or 3 more days.

You can't hurry up Mother Nature. Your doe will kindle when SHE is ready.
It sounds like she is doing everything right :) Probably any time now.
My guess is this morning or today.

I have a lop who just had her 3rd litter yesterday. First 2 litters , she had 5 babies in each one. This time she had 7. She looked so tired toward the end. Course this hot weather probably did not help either. Anyways mom and babes are doing fine. And new colors in this group :) I have 2 daughers from her first 2 litters that I am raising up. Tri colors. I just enjoy lops.

Do I need to worry that she already had them and ate them? I didn't see any blood or "parts" in the nest box yesterday or this morning. She's "about" 2 to 3 years old (we were told when we got her). Is she too old? Could this be a false pregnancy?

Seems funny that about 22 hours ago she was pulling fur like a mad woman, but since has been as cool as can be and doesn't have a care in the world.

We are new to rabbits (just started this spring). This will be our 3rd doe that has a littler. Our other Holland Lop, and other Lion head, does both had theirs exactly on day 31.

I guess we are just itchy to see these babies and it's hard to have patience.

Anything we should/could do to induce labor???

The Does like to do that to you Jimmy. Go take a nice long nap and she'll have them. Like T.A.D. said. "Your doe will kindle when SHE is ready. " My French Lops make me crazy to but nothing we can do about it but wait them out.

Go take a nap, a watched doe never kindles, you might be stressing her out by checking on her too much.

Rabbits are hard, if you stick with it you need to be tough. Your bunny hasn't read the book on raising rabbits.

I have a web cam on the cage for the past 48 hours so I can watch from my phone or computer. Do you think that could be bothering her? It's outside of the cage about 12", but it does have night vision so that I can see in the dark.

Wonder if I removed it would she go have those darn babies???

It has been a LONG day, and is looking like it's going to be a LONG weekend!

It's 1:30PM now and still NO babies. This rabbit is driving me nuts. She acts like she wants to have them, but then she doesn't.

Around 11AM this morning I could see that she was in the cage and looked like she was pulling fur again like crazy. I ran home at lunch to find her acting like nothing was happening! She did end up laying on her right and left sides, which I've never seen her do before, and she was panting (and it's nice and cool where she is at), do I figured it was going to happen any second.

Well now 90 minutes later I can see she's as cool as a cucumber again.

This rabbit is going to drive me to drink. :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

Sure hope she has 12 kits in there when I get home!!!!

Her name is "Lucy", but I think we should have named her "Slow Poke"

I got to see my mini rex kindle about a month ago

My rabbits always start to pant and lay on their side before they are ready to kindle. They also tend to do it when it is quiet at night. I would just let her be if she's not acting like she's in pain. :)

Lucky! I've seen it twice, very cool! I was.making a watched pot never boils reference.

Ok it's 9:20PM on day 32..... We throw our hands in the air and give up.

I'm not going to leave the web cam on tonight, and I'm going to bed. She either has them by morning or she doesn't. She OBVIOUSLY wants me to know who is in charge!

My wife said earlier this evening that she was laying on her side (the rabbit) and she saw for certain a direct poke come out of her stomach. So she HAS TO have some babies in there!

Hope they come out soon.

I'll update in the morning. Good night. And thanks for all your help!!!!
