the smaller breeds only have 4 classes Sr Buck, Sr Doe, Jr Buck and Jr Doe

Yet the Rex is a 4 class breed. :?

Made me pull out the SOP :)

"Only breeds with a minimum ideal senior weight of 9 pounds and over will have an intermediate class"
Rex Sr Buck ideal weight is 8 lbs...Sr Doe is 9lbs.

( i've wondered about that before why the Rex... who are a meat breed aren't a 6 class rabbit... Now i Know !)

So do Rex have an intermediate class or not ?! I'm confused ?!?

My Rex breeder laments the same thing. The growth rate is the same, but since the end result is smaller than what the cut off is, they are 4 class. Though quite a few Rex often get larger. I have 10 lb does and 9 lbs bucks, they did not get that size till 10 mos or later. A very nice buck with three legs down the drain because he weighed in at 10lbs at a year old, and hadn't been registered yet. Not fat at all, just big. Now that I am getting 6 mos olds at 8lbs, I'm going to have to weigh more frequently. (or once they reach sr weight, just register them).

AH-HA!!!

So that's why! Thanks, RR!

How embarrassing- I now realize that I haven't read all of the info in the SOP- I mostly have just looked up breed standards. I guess I have a homework assignment now. :reading2:

I started with adult rabbits and it worked really well for me but it sure doesn't for everyone!

Finally got some rex stock and really LOVE them! So soft and the bucks sooooo friendly. The does, not so much.

I call my buck Joe Cool ... he's about the most laid back critter Ive ever had .... and there have been more than I can count.

My does are rather friendly too ... tho that took a bit of effort as one of them didn't care to be picked up at first. Daily handling goes a long way.
I walk outside and all of them are begging for attention.

There is nothing that compares to a quality rex fur.

I know, I'm looking very hard at culling my original meat line because they don't have the density that my new stock does

Like above, Cali Bucks NZW Does produce the biggest and fastest growth. I am getting 5lbs at 8 weeks most of the time(litter average 8).

My Silver Fox eat more hay which is cheaper, but messy! They all grow pretty fast. 2014 I am keeping better records. And more weights!

Champagnes can be hit or miss.
