Yea I'm using my rabbits for meat so a rex and a American white should be OK to breed and eat?SRRY for all the dumb questions guys. But thank you for helping me out its helping so much

I'm not familiar with the Am. White, but as long as there isn't a huge discrepancy in size with the buck being larger than doe, you should be fine. All rabbits are made of meat, some are just meatier than others. It will be interesting to see how the cross turns out. If you keep any to breed you could see Rex fur in the 2nd generation if bred back to the Rex or a brother/sister pairing.

OK I just picked up the AM. White and the guy said he's ready to breed. And he also said he could get me a doe for around $20 is that forth it?

Is this guy a black market bunny-pusher, or what? :hmm: Is it an Am. W doe? Are they papered? A good rabbit is worth $20 bucks, but sight unseen... can you get pics and post them?

I just noticed you are in Ca. I'm near Bakersfield- where are you approximately?

No he works at our local feed store and I told him I wanted to get started so he gave me a buck. He said he gets them from a breeder that breeds AM. Whites and he said there purebred

Well here's some pics of my new buck!

Ok. Then he probably talks to customers alot and knows people who have all kinds of animals for sale. I know I talk to my feed store person, and of course they know what I have, because I buy the food :) I hope they will remember to recommend me to customers.

Hard to say, since I have never seen an Amer white up close, and most REW look about the same to me, unless their fur or body type is distinguishable. That does not quite look like the body type I saw on the Amer white website. You would need to see a pedigree. Anyway, it looks like a nice rabbit, and $20 is a fair price.

OK. If I don't know exactly how old my rex is what's another way I could tell if she's ready to breed?

Weigh her. Otherwise no. Even if the vulva is the right color, under 6 mos old, there is a good probability that she still might not be mature enough to take. Take a show posed picture near some object of known size, say a bag of sugar, and I might be able to tell you based on her size (if she is a standard rex and not a mini), approx how old she is (if she's like mine), but for you weighing her would be better.

OK well I don't got a scale to weight her so ill try to get a picture of her tomorrow. The guy said she was no more then 6 but he wasn't sure.

__________ Fri Apr 13, 2012 8:57 pm __________
