Mom is a broken tort. Don't know the history on her beyond that. had a sister that was chestnut.
Dad a black japanese from a line of japanese.

What colour is this doe. I am thinking seal magpie. She is most definitely NOT black. Seems to have a chocolate overcast to her coat but she is NOT chocolate and is NOT lilac.

I sold this doe as a kit as I didn't know her colour. She came back pregnant and if she has something worth keeping I'll do a pedigree on the kit. Knowing colour I think would be good then eh? Six kits born this cold morning. :)

thanks for your help.

looks broken magpie with a little tort-ing to me. the brown over cast could be sunburn or a result of the shaded gene.

Heavily marked self shaded magpie = aa B_ cchl_ D_ ej e

A seal magpie would be full extension and harlequin (Eej) which is not possible since her mother was a tort (ee) and her father MUST a have given her the harli gene and couldn't have given a full extension.

Thanks Dood.

So what colour would I put on the pedigree?

Black magpie???? Or self Magpie???

I thought self was just a word for a solid coloured rabbit...like blue, black, chocolate etc. So I'm just a bit confused as to what to call her then.

It is when the Japanese Harequin gene effects chinchilla or shaded rabbits to create a brindling effect on their predominantly white and black (or dark sepia) coats but you can have blue, chocolate and lilac magpies as long as they are expressing chin/shaded AND harli genes

so basically you are saying she's a tort rabbit with harlequin overshadowing her.

Would that be a correct statement.

So me saying she's really no defined colour would be accurate. I think I'll just put a nebulous "magpie" designation on her. anything else just gets too complicated. :)

No, she is a sable point with a harlequin over shadowing her :)

But a sable point is just a torted siamese sable

Because none of the magpie colours are showable they don't have unique names attached like "Smoke Pearl" or "Lynx"

You could just put down "magpie" however people assume that only refers to agouti and chinchilla gened rabbits - which she is not

But seriously nobody really cares except colour nazis like me

It's all very educational, and I'm pretty smart, but when YOU start talking colors.... my eyes start crossing. ;)
It's pretty obvious that colors are a passion of yours. I feel like I desperately need a "rabbit colors for idiots" book. lol
