We have a mini rex doe that is in the process of giving birth. She started having one that was stuck halfway in and halfway out. This kit was dead. We removed the dead kit as carefully as we could. She is back in her nesting box and doesn't seem to be in distress. Is it possible that is the only one she will have? Do I need to watch for anything? Is there anything I should do?

The one first born was feet first if that makes a difference.

I would watch for more kits! She probably has more, but if the kit was very large, it may be a small litter. I would just check her periodically, and don't remove the nestbox too soon- recently there have been some posts about other kits being born days after the original birth. With the stress of the stuck kit and your assistance, she may stop her labor until she feels safe.

Good luck! I hope you have a nest full of wiggly kits soon!

Thanks for the information. Still no more kits but the doe seems to be doing okay so far. Hopefully she will be fine. I will keep you posted!

Offering her a fruit-flavored Tums may help her if she's having a little trouble. She'll eat it if she needs it, and you can leave it in her dish if she doesn't eat it right away.

Hope to hear nestbox news soon! :D

Nothing today. Maybe that is the only one she had...I'm going to keep watching her. Our other doe had 3 kits yesterday. Two are good size but one seems pretty little. We are keeping our fingers crossed!
