He only wants to cuddle!

My ONLY blue NZ buck just wont do the deed!

He will groom, share quarters, share food and cuddle up with a doe - have now had 4 in with him for 3 week stints each - but he just wont mount!

Saw him mount properly ONCE late summer but the doe didn't take.

What can I do to "help" him get in the mood?

Proven doe, junior doe, willing doe, unwilling doe, all the same to him. The only doe he has had a problem with was one today that frightened him by grabbing him and humping like mad. THAT shocked him! :lol:

But she had kits today so I thought perhaps a doe in peak readiness might do it. He actually smelled her and looked interested but then she got too weird for him.

He is 8 months old now.

8 months might be too young (for him). I would cage him next to a seasoned buck, if you can, and let him watch (rowr...). Only give him a doe 5-10 minutes at a time. If it doesn't happen almost immediately, in my experience it just won't happen.

Make sure he isn't too fat. I have a Champagne buck who just won't try hard if he is too hefty (and the damn thing can live on air - it's so hard to make him lose weight!). Lean and mean is what you need.

Give him another few months. If not, then find something else to do with him. Sorry, but we all have rabbits who we have great plans for but they aren't on the same page. It's always hard to cull - I have a Champagne doe who keeps getting another (last) chance, but her end is here once her planned replacement has her first litter.

Don't feel bad. I have one that does the same thing the only difference being he's never mounted.

Sorry youre having this problem and of you find a solution please let me know.

So if he and the doe/s been living together for 3 months...then he might have done the deed during the night when you were not watching him, and just maybe the doe/s is pregnant. So if she is, then he would have no interest now.

So if he and the doe/s been living together for 3 months...then he might have done the deed during the night when you were not watching him, and just maybe the doe/s is pregnant. So if she is, then he would have no interest now.

Three different does, each one for three weeks each and the first one is now back in with him. Will give a try to putting him on the doe and see how that works. :lol:

Just updated my profile, we now live in Georgia so no, its not heat bothering him. :lol:

The does have PILES of hay to use if they so choose but I have about given up on them, each time I put one back in with him they just cuddle up with him like "Hey Cuddles, havnt seen you for awhile!"

Try something that will break the routine. One show breeder I was talking to has a buck that will only mount right after being at a show, or after a car ride of all things lol :motorcycle:
You want to make them a little nervous, work them up a bit she said. That's how she gets her does to be receptive up here in the no daylight winters. Worth a try I guess :good-luck:

He is with a beautiful broken blue doe and it makes me crazy that he isnt making the next generation with her! :evil:
