Just witnessed it for the first time - it was pretty cute to see her with a mouthful, hopping around gathering more. Just like the pictures I have seen. It's my "dud doe" - a couple weeks after I got her, she started nesting, but never did anything else. I bred her with a young buck who seemed to be ready... again, she started nesting right on time, but again, nothing. I bred her with a proven buck (although not ideal, since he's smaller) just to see if she was capable. This is the most nest I have seen her make (as in, huge clumps of hair!), and she's due tomorrow so we'll see if there are any babies soon!

I will say, she's the one that had vent disease, for sure (I remember noticing it, but had no idea what it was). She's had a weeks worth of antibiotics (well, one injection last Wednesday) - will the babies be OK, or is there still a good chance it will transfer to them?

-- Thu May 21, 2015 9:14 am --

5 babies in the box this morning!

Today it's pleasantly cool (in the 70's) but we've been on a hot streak that's due to come back. What do I need to do for the babies once it gets into the mid 80's and above? Just uncover them a bit?

Make sure you treat any buck she was with also..for the kits I would assume the antibiotics will pass through in the milk...don't worry about the kits and temperature..mine crawl in and out of the fur ...in the warmth of the day they will be in the front of the nest box, then at the night feed they will be back under the fur..Congratulations on the litter! :!: :!: I guess she just needed the "right" buck
