I have a lot of question about harlequins and magpie and I am hoping that someone can answer:
is a magpie a diluted harlequin?
if not is a diluted magpie possible?
is there a brown (or chocolate) magpie or harlequin?
how do you even get a magpie or harlequin?
what is a Japanese harlequin if that is real?
????

From my understanding is the color is called harlequin, but you can either have a Magpie harlequin(which is a white base) or Japanese harlequin (orange base). And yes, you can have dilutes. They both come in black (or blue if dilute) and chocolate (or lilac if dilute).

you need the ej gene to get harlequin. By adding the CH gene (chinchilla) it washes out the colour giving the white base for magpie. Harlequin is not only a breed but also a colour. Japanese harlequins are useful in a tricolour breeding program.
