We're off to a crazy start. Hope you all are doing well. I'll be incubating chicken eggs soon, might as well get a jump on it. February start some seeds.
It's cold in Illinois, like 10 tonite, zero next week. I was cold today for some reason and brought the buns into the basement which is like 55. I should have left them outside in their hutch. I'll take them back out tomorrow morning when the sun comes up. Waiting for babies until spring. Down to 3 left in the freezer. Not sure how my doe will do but she's all I got so I'm using her. Anybody feeling winter duldrums like me today?

Sorry to hear about your doldrums. I know the feeling well, but this year, I'm feeling downright springlike! We've had the most amazing weather - 30s and low 40s off and on for weeks!!! We did have tremendous windstorms (that's not unusual at all), but they were warm chinook winds in our area. Personally I love 'em, though many parts of the region went without power in the last few days. We only lost power for a few hours, and have a generator if it goes longer. I think it was gusting 85 to 100 mph in the Anchorage hillside, and 50 to 75 mph in our area... so, yes, crazy, but not really wintry.

In between, it's been in the teens and 20s, but that's totally tolerable, and a heck of a lot better than the stretches of -35F we had last year. I love being able to go out in my t-shirt even a couple of days a week (and I L-O-V-E not having to de-ice crocks!!!) Who ever heard of no snow most of December and well into January in Alaska? We actually tied the yaks out to graze the other day! We butchered some goats and hung the meat under the deck at a perfect 36F (and didn't lose our fingers to numb cold!).

I got a couple of does bred too, though that's not super strange, as even in "normal" years (if there is such a thing) most of them are getting into the mood right about now. We're gaining over 4 minutes of sunlight each day at the moment and even though the days aren't long yet, we're all feeling it. I do have to smack my hand to keep myself from planting any seeds yet. It's not really frost-safe for seedlings till Memorial Day, so January/February is way too early.

Fantastic! I'm over it, much better today. I start my seeds inside to set out in April for the tomatoes. Your winds would drive me nuts.
