Varia (polish doe) has for the last couple of breedings, at day 15 given me a puddle of blood under her cage and failed to kindle.

She was due on the 12th and this would be her last chance. And she did the whole puddle of blood thing again so I didn't have very high hopes.

I bred her to a different buck each time.

Today... TWO days early mind you... she had three kits.
She didn't make a good nest BUT God was good and got me outside just shortly after she kindled. I was able to give her a nest and lots of fur to keep her kits warm AND they were still alive when I returned this evening. :)

Three kits. All look to be chocolate. This from a doe that the judges really liked when I showed her.
Hopefully her kits will be decent. :)

Congrats to you and Varia!! I hope that all the kits do well, and she continues to improve as a mother :)

How surprising. I wonder what is going on with the blood pooling? Maybe she aborted one early, but the others were okay?

I hope the little guys do well despite their early entry into the world. :clover:

I don't know MSD...I was starting to think there was a genetic problem with her...something that prevented conception.

Now I just have to wonder at the cause...

two of the three kits are still alive. Have them fostered over to another doe for warmth, in the cold weather, less than three kits simply don't survive. I've rebred the doe to a buck I won't be keeping through the winter.

Sorry to hear you lost a kit. Will be interesting to hear if she has the same problem as before with this rebreeding. Hope not. Hoping it takes and all goes well.
