More rabbit drama today...while allowing Victoria's only living kit out of 8 to nurse on my ND doe Icon, I noticed that her vent is quite red and swollen looking. It even has some yellowish crusty stuff on it. Her last litter was born 7 weeks ago, so it's not like she's still healing. When I bred her, my buck seemed to be having difficulty but it was when it was super hot so I didn't think much of it. When I looked at him after several attempts he seemed to be a little raw looking but I chalked it up to chafing from trying so many times. Now I'm wondering if it might be vent disease? Unfortunately, earlier this summer I'd bred that same buck to my himi doe (no problems at all during that breeding though) and I've now bred the himi doe to my new broken smoke buck. So...if it is vent disease all my adult Netherlands would possibly have it. Should they all be treated? My himi doe is currently pregnant. I've palpated her and I'm sure she is. Her vent looks a little red and irritated. I'm thinking it came from the original ND's I bought this year (the himi doe and the buck that I've used with the 2 does, AWOL). They came from a breeder that I've decided is less than reputable...he will not get back with me! I've got questions about the pedigrees (he didn't give me complete ones) and he didn't even know the accurate color of the buck. In hindsight I probably shouldn't have purchased them. Lesson learned. I called the local feed mill and they do carry syringes and PenG. Can anyone tell me how to dose them? Also what do I do about the pregnant doe, China? What about Icon's kit? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
