Aloha Rabbit Talk folks!

We have very, very few English Angora rabbits on our island and we are looking to import some good quality English angoras to set up a foundation herd. Does anyone have any good quality kits, breeding pairs or trios available? To ship to Hawaii, they need a veterinary health certificate and then to be shipped on an airline however, we would pay for all of that. The rabbits we get will influence the English Angoras on our island and probably in the entire state as well. At the moment, as far as any of us in the group can find out, there are three adult English angoras on our island, the Island of Hawaii (aka The Big Island). The three rabbits are a mother/son/daughter so the possible breeding is very limited. We really NEED more rabbits. At the moment, we are having difficulties with ear carriage, so conformation of the imported rabbits is really important. Heck, these rabbits will be the base all the others will be bred from, everything is important on these first ones.

We will be starting a rabbit club and will have some rabbit shows hopefully next year so we would like show quality rabbits. We are also a group of spinners so we want really good quality wool, preferably the "pluckable" sort, but the quality and density is most important.

Does anyone know where to get good rabbits from?

A hui hou,
Cathy

It won't be for a few more weeks, but my 4H leader has some nice 60~70% english, 30~40% german. She may be selling an unrelated herd buck as well.
Colors she has; black, black and blue tort, rew, tort marten, blue otter.
The blue otter isn't showable I believe, and the tort marten shouldn't be, but no judge has dq'd it yet. (color wise. body/wool wise they're great.)

Thank you for thinking of us, ShadedNightRabbitry, however we are looking for purebred since this will be the foundation herd for the whole island.

A friend in Hilo may buy several Bumblebee Acres bunnies, that will help improve the gene puddle to no end. Also friend of Lauren's may be able to help some, too although there will still be some discussion before anything is known. I really appreciate everyone helping us find good bunnies!

No worries, Shara, we are kinda used to not having things because we live on an island. It's part and parcel of the whole being 2,500 miles from the nearest continent sort of thing. If there's something we see at the store that we want, we buy it right away since it may not be there when we go back and will either take weeks or won't show up again. Usually seasonal items go from rude plenty to not enough of them every other year. I forget which year we are in for Christmas trees, it will probably be a "not enough of them" year but at least we seem to have enough pumpkins for Halloween.
