As the wormer weather is approaching, I get to spend more time outside with my fawn doe Fawn (very original, right?). The thing noticed is that the ends of her hairs are lighter, more yellowish as opposed to the normally orangeish fur. Is this normal for fawns or is it Gold tipped? I ask bcs one of Fawn's stepsiblings (frathernal, cross with Californian) turned to be Gold tipped black.

Because the non extension gene (ee) that turns chestnuts into fawns and the steel gene (Es_) that turns chestnuts into gold tipped steels are both on the E-locus a rabbit cannot be both.

I don't have fawns so cannot comment on whether it is normal or not but some of my lighter torts (also non extension) look like their tips are frosted.

I would guess it's just a minor genetic flaw. Some modifier kept the banding that would normally be turned the same shade of red. Much the same way you can get smutty reds with dark tips sometimes. I thought I had a steel red too but I realized it's impossible and it was just the banding showing through. It didn't help mine was a heavily marked broken and all I had to go off of for color was a back stripe, ears, and nose butterfly.

My red doe always looks lighter when she is molting, maybe your doe is starting to molt?
