These little rabbits are cramped like crazy, and it doesn't look like the new hutch is gunna be built anytime soon enough. I was thinking maybe risk the bear with half the litter and put them in the chicken run now that the chickens are gone. I was thinking put a couple peices of plywood down so they can't dig out. Could I use straw and fir shavings as floor cover?

How old are they?
I have 12 out in a 20x30 grass yard and they are around 20 weeks now, none dig. Of all my adult rabbits, only my original Cali doe digs.

But them popping out the fence or under would be a bigger worry.

I have rabbits in my chicken pen. The wire is dug down 18 inches with an inner line of chicken wire so they cant get through the larger mesh.

So far so good, no one has gotten out.

I did have to run some chicken wire on the ground OUTSIDE the pen to stop my doe digging her burrow up and out as she dug under the wire but she didnt get all teh way out so no harm done.

Only my does want to dig and they only want to dig when preggers so with growers you should be fine.

Well, I would risk it, better to loose them in the back yard where you can catch them than to fighting. Having lost one that way I dont EVER want to risk that again!

Putting wire underground may be out of the question - too many roots to fuss with. Although I wonder if the roots could hold them in, what with this forest and all. XD

Unfortunately today my dad (AKA: smart builder guy) finally realized that it's not good having so many in the cage like this - so he's finally jumped on building the hutch. Him and mom broke up a bunny fight before I woke up, and when I came home later I found one of the little does with her throat gashed open pretty bad, I'm surprised she wasn't dead yet. :( They're about 11 weeks.

Just lay the wire down onto the ground and clip it to the wire that forms the sides of the pen. I use hog rings cause they are fast and last for aaaages.

Then you can cover the wire with hay so they dont get their legs stuck. After awhile the hay will mulch down and form soil over the wire.

That way you dont have to dig anything

The only reason my chickens were dug in is I couldnt afford the wire when I built the pen and had to keep the 'coons out. I will NOT be doing it for the new grower pen that is all built and beautiful in my head but still needs to be moved into the real world. ;)
