I'm getting a Flemish Giant this evening for $15.00! :D

I'm pretty stoked! I had one as a teen and named him Rover.

He's 4 months old, so too young to breed yet. That works out nicely in this heat. I gotta build another hutch and get the quarantine area redone.

Woohoo! :bouncy:

Here's "RJ". It stands for Rover Junior.

He feels kinda bony and underweight. His ears are infested with mites. I put some Ivermectin in both ears. He sure doesn't like it. He's trying to clean it out of his ears.

Here's his left ear.

And his right...

They should clear up in a few days.

AWww poor bunny, yeah that should work great!!......he looks very nice,...The alfalfa will help him put on weight..how much does he weigh?

Wow, did the breeder sell you an ill buck??
Please keep up with the oil until his ears are clear for a solid month!
I ended up with a doe who got ear mites, treated every few days, it went away, re-treated 2wks later. Then she suddenly got an inner ear infection. Somehow she had clawed the gunk too deep and ruptured the ear drum, then she had seizures from it. Eventually, I had to put her down. There's no way to get an Ecollar on a rabbit to stop them digging. Really wish there was, it would of saved her. =(

He looks nice and big otherwise. Around here, there is little more than 'fake' FG. All of them are very small at 8wks, it's pathetic. And if you do manage to find a 'real' FG, of proper size, they are easily over $80 each. =(
Thus, I gave up on them. Similar issues with NZ here, gave up on those, too.

Hopefully he recovers super fast and turns out to be an excellent bunrab for you!! =D

It should work. I used it on my herd when one had come in with mites. He looks large. I even had someone comment on his size when I was taking him home. He only weighs 5 lb 12 oz. He's pretty bony. I have no idea what they fed him, but IMO, it wasn't enough.

I didn't get him from the breeder. They bought him as a female and the SCF waved her wand. I'm a little surprised at his condition, especially if they were growing "her" out as a breeder. They had nice, healthy looking Californians and other Flemish Giants that looked ok.

Of course, at $15.00, he must have been their worst case. He'll be ok though.

I've seen FGs go for $100.00 around here. The lowest I've seen was $40.00 for a juvenile until today.

ya give him free feed,alfalfa.. grass, im sure you know the deal lol..and he'll be fine, he kinda has humpier look on top , Flemish have that Mandolin shape, but it could be just because of his condition, if he recovers he'd still be more than excellent for a meat breeder.. :)

__________ Thu Jun 27, 2013 11:02 pm __________

at 5 months id like to see him around the 10 lb range so he def. needs more meat lol.... wish I had that problem personally lol

With as small as he is he was either not being fed enough (as you mentioned you thought) or he got sick. Sick rabbits can drop a lot of weight really fast. no matter how healthy all the rest of your animals look one in the condition your poor bunny is in is enough for ara people to go nuclear, even if it is a fresh rescue o_O so odds are the people you got him from got rid of him out of fear, thinking it wasn't worth the risk with how long it would take him to recover. Either way its a real sad thing to happen to a rabbit, but hopefully he will bounce back fast from whatever all he went through :)

I have a full flemish doe, she curls up in a ball like that. when I first got her she was underweight so looked just like that when she curled up. (she was bred way to young so made her ill)Now she is back up where she should be can't curl since her full belly wont let her so she lays out and is shaped just like she should be :p

I figured.....kinda witnessed mine do that today and was like hmmmmm...although shes due to kindle sunday **fingers crossed**
