Whoever told you this was wrong. Chins DO have agouti banding. Chin removes the yellow/red pigment (pheomelanin) from the coat not the bands.

No, she wasn't given the wrong info, it was just a misunderstanding.
I saw the post and had been meaning to clear that up, but lost track of it somewhere..

Alforddm is right, chinchilla ARE genetically agouti rabbits, and they have banding. The simply lack the yellow/brown tones that an agouti would have.

Chinchilla can be black, blue(squirrel) chocolate, or lilac based. Just as agouti can be chestnut, opal chocolate agouti(amber in rex) or lynx.

Sorry for the misunderstanding!

You don't have to apologize!! It's gotta be super tough to sort out and remember all this stuff about colors without having all the different varieties right in front of you to inspect.

I started with some odd colored buns, just like you. Can you believe I still can't name the color of my first doe with complete confidence? I think she was probably a wideband chestnut agouti...

Aside from noting the cute ones, I skip past their Aa-Bb-yada-yada .... makes my head spin if I tried to keep it all straight right now. I'd be shocked if it didn't confuse a whole bunch of people at times... especially the similar ones. I'm one of those people that needs to see the two colors next to each other to see the difference.

Zass is the resident "I've got a pic of that one" person. I have noooooooo clue how she keeps those picture files straight. Mind boggling... but awesome to be able to see what someone's describing. Then there's Dood who must have some kind of sixth sense for when there's a genetic question lingering on the forum to swoop in and clear up.

I'll be shocked if there's ever a rabbit question on this forum that somebody doesn't know. Actually... that probably extends to most animals.

I have all my photos crammed, unlabeled, in on giant folder on my desktop (and one older folder on my external). I have 1000's no one will ever see. I just access everything via memory.

It didn't seem unusual until you pointed it out.

I still rely on Dood, Celice, Akane and everyone else for pics of all sorts of things I've never had in my litters though, like anything shaded, sallanders, himi's of any type, blue, lilac or chocolate ermines, silvered torts, otters of any color, variations on chinchilla, etc etc...
