It's funny you should mention that. Up until just now, I'd never really seen them pee before. I went out there again a bit ago, picked up one of the older ones from a different litter, and the kit peed on my hand...and peed, and peed, and peed. It must have peed half it's weight.
 Yep, sounds about right!

every time I go out there they are all snuggled in a puppy pile and irritated when I poke them to make sure they are alive

"Here comes that pesky guy again. *Yawn!* Doesn't he realize that we need our sleep in order to grow?"

3 of them are a silvery-black mix, they look a lot like mini chinchillas.

Oooh! Lucky! Pictures? :camera:

the one reply from momma sheepdog about the feel good hormone really helped me. I had a doe that was a lil brat ever since I got her she would find ways to escape and end up in the treat bag( dried apple peels from canning apple sauce) and charge at me and grunt like shes gonna bite me( she never bite me but why the hostility). so I have been trying to bond with her after her litter and she likes me now, she used to cower in the corner when I fed her now she likes me to pet her.

YAY! :bouncy:

Three cheers for prolactin! :cheer1: :cheer2: :cheer1:

I'm glad it worked for you! :D It is so much nicer to care for your animals when they like you. :)

Sure. I couldn't find our camera so you'll have to put up with crappy cellphone pics, but here you go!

Bonus pic of our older doe looking annoyed because now her kits won't leave her alone since they can get out of the box. I ended up putting the box on its side so they would have a warm place to snuggle if they wanted, since they could get out but they couldn't get back in. She's still very sweet though and loves her attention. :)

-- Sat Jul 12, 2014 2:28 pm --

We think one of our bucks must be a NZW/Silver fox mix of some kind because another litter he sired has a couple of juveniles that look a lot like silverfoxes.

This litter is the offspring of of him, plus the doe is a NZW/Californian hybrid (according to the breeder).

I'll post pics when they are older, if anyone is interested. Maybe they really are a chinchilla mix. I don't know the parents lineage so I can't say for sure.

Ahhh, a frosty then which is basically a chinchilla'd red :)

This explains your chinchilla kits, he must carry REW as well to have fathered the white kits and your doe doesn't have non-extension, unless any of those white kits have brown or grey eyes and are frosties themselves.

You might have to explain that one a bit more in depth to me. :) I don't understand much about rabbit heritage traits.

Another member (Devon's Mom Lauren, I think) explained it to me several years ago. We had a black-eyed white rabbit, who developed very light spots -- the color was only on the tips of her fur. She explained that I basically had a genetically red rabbit, with smut (the dark fur tips). The reason she was white was that she also had the chinchilla gene, which causes red not to show.

Crossed with a chestnut buck, she produced chestnuts, chinchillas, and reds, as well as brokens of all of those, and also whites.

That may explain things. He's thrown all kinds of weird colors. We have a couple of juvies that look like silverfoxes from him, and then this litter also from him has the 3 wannabe chinchillas. But mostly he throws REW's.

It will be interesting to see what they grow up to be.

The Silver Fox lookalikes may be steels? I'm sure Dood or somebody else will tell you. :)

You can call those three chinchillas. Chinchilla can be an animal (Akane raises them), chinchilla can be a rabbit breed, or chinchilla can be any rabbit colored like a rabbit of the chinchilla breed.

We have one that's a half-lop. :) She's a doe we kept from that chestnut x black-eyed white breeding. The chestnut buck was a minilop. IS a minilop. We still have him.

If anyone is interested, here are ~3 week old pics from today of the chinchilla crosses. It's a little early to tell for sure but it looks like there are 2 does and a buck. We will probably keep at least one doe. Then my wife brought up selling the buck. Are they worth a lot?

Thanks for sharing those buns are just adorable and I love their coloring. I have only ever had one chin in all my litters! They are at my favorite age right now

The two does also have different personalities already. One is quite content to sit on my chest and lounge, while the other is curious and wants to explore everything. It is going to be very hard to choose just one to keep. :cry_baby:

From a production stand point you should choose the one that is growing the fastest, hopefully she will pass this trait on to her offspring.

I paid $50 for my show quality American Chinchilla but these rabbits are crossbred regardless of their colour and worth what any crossbred meat rabbit sells for in your area - here is $15 to $20

Oh I know that in theory, right now they are about the same weight, just different personalities. :) But that doesn't really make it easier.

-- Fri Aug 08, 2014 12:04 am --

Had to share this pic! The two girls that we will have to choose from were playing around on my husbands chest and I caught one of them playing peek a boo.

Currently both girls are the exact same weight as of 5 weeks today. One is very docile and loves to just lay about while being petted. The other little girl is very curious and can not sit still for 2 seconds straight. :D I am thinking we are going to keep the more docile of the two.
