Our new ND doe had her first litter this morning- four, with two being DOA. The two dead ones had that sort of stretched look about them though, so I'm guessing that after the first two who seam fine (other then being sorta small and thin) they got stuck. I'm just glad she managed on her own though, as I went into town when she was just finished.
Fast forward maybe three, four hours later, and I'm just about to eat my lunch. Sister comes running in and tells me she saw a foot poking out of Lola :x So the poor wee girl had a fifth popple, but it was also stuck. I managed to whip her out of the cage, and with the help of some olive oil, assisted her with the last one. It was dead of course, and Lola was exhausted.
She's sitting back in her cage now, likely trying to get a bit of sleep.
This is the first mishap we've had with our rabbits delivering, after two years, and I'm a bit worried about Lola. Is there anything I can do to help her recover, or should she be ok on her own? Any herbs that would help? As previously mentioned her popples are quite small and a bit thinner then I'd like, but as long as she feeds them I'm guessing they'll be fine.
Feeling a bit frazzled with my first assistance in the delivery of any kind of animal, despite having them for a fair number of years. So any help/encouragement/advise is greatly appreciated!
