Today when we went down to check on our rabbits we found Moose had 3 babies in her nesting box. We were quite surprises as she was due the 19th and I really didn't think she was preg. and she hadn't pulled any hair at all to make a nest yet 3 hours latter hair was all over and 3 babies so far. Just crossing my fingers she does well w/ her first litter

Is there any tips on getting her to stay in the nest as she doesn't seem to want to say in the box. since she made it at the last second I just gave her a ton of hay to add to it and she loves tissue so I gave her some of that too

__________ Mon Jun 24, 2013 6:13 pm __________

what is the average size litter for a mini lion head as this is her first time?

Rabbits don't stay in the nest box. It's an instinct thing... a way to protect the babies from predators. They have the babies, cover them up, and then leave. "What? No, no babies here... just me." They come back once or twice a day to feed them, and stay only a few minutes. You won't often catch her feeding them.

You'll know they're cared for when you see nice, round bellies sometime within the first day or so. :)

My average litter would probably be 6-7 kits. Does carrying the dwarf gene will have smaller litters than false dwarfs, though.

She is more then happy to get out of the cage for a bit to get attention from us and a few extra treats to give us a chance to check on the little ones. their colors are really starting to change.
