I posted an ad in our local online classifieds and got a response within minutes from a lady that wants 6 rabbits for her kids for 4H. How cool is that?

Way to go, Sis! 4 does and 2 bucks, or does she have 3 kids and needs 3 pairs?

4 does and 2 bucks, for two kids. I am really excited about this, I had not planned to sell many but it will help finance the new addition we are planning!

Congratulations! Wow! :D

__________ Fri Jan 27, 2012 8:14 pm __________

Better keep your does busy, or you aren't going to have any to send to camp!

LOL! Once 4H people find out you have rabbits for sale, there's no stopping it! I started selling by word of mouth, and the calls started flooding in! I even got three calls for rabbits AFTER I moved here, from back at my old place (650 miles away!).

She came by yesterday to see them and she paid me ahead of time. The kits won't be ready for two weeks, so she will come back to pick them up. I am thinking that we probably won't be sending many, if any, to FC out of this crop! LOL We do have 6 does bred though....

Awesome!rabbits are very popular in 4H thses days. All 4H kids dont live on a farm anymore and have room for calves or sheep.

Tanya, I have Californian rabbits. Some pedigreed, some not. $35 with ped, $25 no ped.

Will someone please explain this whole pedigree thing to me. I understand a pedigree is like the family tree of the rabbit. But, how do you pedigree your own rabbits. I see somepeople have pedigree rabbits, and selling the kits as not pedigree for less. Would you not want to pedigree them for a bigger profit. AND...how exactly do you pedigree them. I am getting pedigree Californias next week for a pretty penny($75 /piece). They are show rabbits, but how do I pedigree mine? I understand I will probably not get as much. Do the 4H er's want pedigree. Sorry for all the basix question, but I am
a newbie here.

It is really simple...if you have the parent's pedigrees, then the kits have a pedigree too. A pedigree is basically just a list of the ancestors that goes back three generations. So, a pedigreed kit will have a record of its parents, grandparents, and great grandparents...sometimes even farther back. The reason I have some that are not pedigreed is that I have no idea who the rabbits parents were, as they were given to me. The ones that I know who their parents and other ancestors are, I sell with a pedigree.

ahhhh! i see! so even if you get a few rabbits with no idea of their background after a few generations you can pedigree them yourself. awesome :)
i'm about to get a dutch pair with 4 kits. pedigree for the pair. and a trio of lionheads. so i'm quite happy that even if i dont get pedigree for the lionheads that i could if i wanted to in a few generations.
