Okay, and Dood this may be for you, what colors can I get if I cross a Chocolate buck carrying harli to a blue tort doe carrying shaded (and she is not a chocolate carrier)?

How about the same buck to a seal doe who also does not carry chocolate, but does carry the recessive extension gene "e" (she is Ee)?

Thank you in advance for the help! :)

Chocolate buck - aa bb C_ D_ Eej
Blue tort doe. - aa BB Ccchl dd ee
Kits
- aa Bb C_ Dd Ee = black
- aa Bb C_ Dd ee = black tort
- aa Bb C_ Dd eje = black harlequinized tort
-aa Bb C_ Dd Eej = black that carries harlequin not possible

Chocolate buck - aa bb C_ D_ Eej
Seal doe - aa BB cchl cchl D_ Ee ( I am assuming she has two shaded but she could be - aa BB cchd_ D_ Ee)
Kits
- aa Bb Ccchl Dd Ee = black
- aa Bb Ccchl Dd Eej = black
- aa Bb Ccchl Dd eje = black harlequinized tort
- aa Bb Ccchl Dd EE = black

Depending on what is on the C-locus in the buck you could get chinchilla or shaded versions as well

It messes up tort and sable point, and I would assume it would mess up seal but it may be hard to see since seals are so dark.

I dont have a pic of my harlequinized sable point but found one from this site - http://wildriverrabbitry.weebly.com/sha ... guide.html

The middle picture is a harlequinized tort, harlequin (fawn harli) and tri (Broken fawn harli)It is tricky to tell the tort from the true harli but the colour is more faded or washed out looking.

The last is a chestnut (A_ & Eej) I also got chinchilla coloured kits with the two tone brindling effect (A_ cchd_ Eej)
Should I risk purchasing the chocolate buck that carries (but does not express) the harli gene?

I breed only self and shaded colors, but desperately want the chocolate gene which is hard to come by around here. Unfortunately the only breeder around here who works with chocolate Hollands, also works extensively with tri and harli colored rabbits. And almost everything she has available carries harli; due to her chocolate carrying herd buck being a magpie (suspected of double "ej" on his E locus).

Would it be easy for me to breed out the harli gene and keep the chocolate on the two does I mentioned above? I understand that this would be a several generation project...

[I also have a black tort buck, in addition to the two does, that carries dilute, but does not have chocolate.]

If I were in your shoes I would get the harli chocolate buck but only breed him to non-extension rabbits so you can see who does and does not get the harli gene.

I would keep a son and daughter who don't get the harli gene but the full extension instead and breed them, they will both carry chocolate and hopefully will give you a non harli chocolate buck that you can keep to expand your chocolates without worrying about harlequin cropping up.
