So, can you all help me evaluate this SF buck?

He's mature and proven. His fur quality is wonderful- sooooo soft and silky and stands up perfect- and he has a mellow personality, but I have 3 bucks now and that's too many for the amount of does I want to have.... I do have the space to keep him, but I'm still iffy on whether or not I should keep him. I personally don't show, but I sell to show people, so if he's good show quality then I'll probably keep him. Here he is:

Also, is his silvering acceptable in shows? I don't think it is, but hopefully I'm wrong! :)

Sorry about the bad lighting... it was a sunny day, and the photo was taken with my old iPod.

I was told by an ol' time Judge that the Silver Fox, when posed, should look like a half of a Basketball with a head stuck on one side... in other words, his width (overhead view) should be as round as possible and should match the height (also as round as possible). I do prefer my herd bucks to carry better rise and more width than your buck shows in these photos. (Might just be way he's posed...)
But if your other bucks are better (rounder, good fur, good color?), and you don't need him for breeding, I'd look for something better to keep as a herd buck. Body Type is very important in Silver Fox... If he is better than your other bucks.

Thank you!! I'll pose him again (without taking pics- it's very hard to pose and take a pic with your other hand!!) to see if it was just the way I posed him, or he actually has bad width.
I tried to pose my other buck, but he just can't sit still. Too curious :)

__________ Tue Jun 10, 2014 5:48 pm __________

OK, so when I posed the silvery buck again, he was still weak in width, but not nearly as much as the picture shows... With two hands, I was able to make sure he didn't move.

Thanks for the image of a "basketball with a head"- that makes sense!!

It's hard to tell from the photos...

From the top view I can see that it looks as if he has pinched hips. He's also heavier than the ideal silvering. Silver Fox are posed as commercials are. Think of a half-sun or basketbal. I agree with BlueGiants that he could use a better rise and I think he needs some depth to him. Generally you want to know what a rabbit looks like from behind too but there's only two pics to go on.

Of course, photos also don't allow us to know the texture or density of his fur. It may have a soft texture, but how about the density? Or the condition of his flesh? If you're iffy on him, and you have other bucks that you like better, then I think that should be your answer ;)
