As you can see from other posts of mine we are kind of kits crazy! We have a litter of 3 and a litter of 2 that were born recently. These we both my first litters so I'm new to this.

Sometime last night the litter of 3 cage broke and they found a tiny hole and escaped. They are about 4 weeks old. I walked in this morning and saw them running around. I picked up my favorite kit and noticed that its ear was bit. There is U shape now missing from its ear. It isn't bleeding and they aren't in pain. I was wondering will the scar grow out and the fur will cover it to where I could show the kit?

I caught the 2 kits, since one was still in the cage by mom. And the dam started to chase the babies and tried to hump them and kept pulling at their fur. She chased them away and kept getting mad at them. I'm not sure what to do.

Advice?

Is the dam pregnant again? If so, she may be chasing them off because she is trying to wean them. Some does--pregnant or not--have limited patience with older kits and resent their unrelenting efforts to nurse.

If the kits at four weeks are eating solid food well, you might consider removing the doe to a separate cage. If you feed pellets, continue with that but add some kitchen oatmeal (the old-fashioned, large flake kind) and some grass hay. This will make the transition easier and help to avoid weaning enteritis. Make sure the kits can reach the water . . . their need for water increases once they stop nursing.
