Wow y'all! I am so happy to be able to post this update! @Alaska Satin Thank you for that information you provided. Not quite 48 hours ago I think it was I treated with ivermectin. Holy cow check out this picture! View attachment 43122
I did confirm she still had mites before treatment in that mess of scabs. Wasn't sure just topical in the ear on top of all the scabs would be effective but the picture speaks for itself. I am floored. I can tell she's far more comfortable already.
I really want y'all to know how much I appreciate all the help and support with this. I know if she could thank you she would also. Huge THANK YOU all for taking the time and energy to help her.
I swear by Ivermectin! 1 drop and only 2 treatments and BAM! bunnies are comfortable and happy.

Ivermectin has so many great uses. Had she just told me she wasn't pregnant she could have had it sooner 😂 Will give a second dose in 18 days per what was written on the previous page by @Alaska Satin.

Drown that in cooking oil. Let it soak in and let her shake and scratch chunks out.
Then oil again. In a couple of days, it'll all be out. At that point, use qtips to whip everything clean. Then a light coat of oil to continue soothing and smothering them.

I've never use ivermectin for it. So idk how well that works. But if that's what you used before and it failed, repeatedly, it's too old, not enough or I'd cull the doe.
Oil is nice because it's always available, 100% safe, cannot overdo it and it sooths the pain.

Wonderful!! How is she after 3 months? btw what dosage and frequency did you use
She was treated with 1 drop in each ear last week. Will repeat in 18 days from the original treatment. There was an incredible difference from the evening to the following morning. Will update again as she's going along. So far so good. Far different healing than the natural treatment from the breeder. Her personality seems to be improving as well.

Thanks. We were past that point with this doe. Especially for temperament reasons.
She was treated by the breeder the day she arrived with the treatment I posted in this thread not ivermectin and was told she would be good. I questioned the scabs but trusted that was the way it would be while healing. I've never seen mites that bad before. I've treated plenty of mites in other species over the years but not rabbits. That's why I posted a picture for help. It seemed like it wasn't actually healing but getting worse. She wasn't scratching them or doing a noticeable amount of head shaking. Normally I would just take a scraping and look under a microscope but we were past that with her. On top of it she could have been pregnant so we were trying not to cause problems with the coming kits. She turned out not to be bred so we went direct with ivermectin. This is not a doe that allows handling without a fight.

This doe's ears are fully healed. There's been a pretty noticeable attitude adjustment not long after the first Ivermectin treatment. She's still grumpy and stand offish but she's not aggressive and will lay quiet once I've got a hand on her now. We are at the reapplication time and like clock work she has started scratching that ear suddenly. Noticed scratch marks last night at feeding. She's been retreated on time. Hopefully this is the end of it. She did great with treatment this time. Allowed me to even touch her ears without trying to get away. Put the drops in and she just laid there for a minute then off she went. A little head shaking I'm guessing from mites running around post treatment but she seems to be doing great otherwise.
Thanks everyone for the help with this doe. Really relieved we got it treated and healed up.

I just thought I'd do a final update on this thread.
This does mites are completely gone. Her ears have healed beautifully. 2 doses of ivermectin. The second doses was mid gestation. Right on schedule she started itching her ears again. A couple days after the second dose she didn't itch them again. She has now had a beautiful healthy litter and is doing a great job being a mom so far. IMG_6472.jpeg
A huge thank you to everyone who commented and offered help and support. Turned this doe around and made her healthy and comfortable. Hope to never have to deal with it again but if we do we can get on it.

Saw this doe slightly lowering one ear the last day or two. Looked deep down inside and found she has ear mites AGAIN. This is after the double dose of ivermectin in September with the follow up in October. She's been clear since. She should be due the 6th of January. No one else seems to but I'm concerned the litter might have them from her. They are due to be processed next week. No one else seems to have any signs but I'm concerned the litter might have them from her. They are due to be processed next week.

I wouldn't worry about it if you're processing them. I had a friend that got some to process from someone and they were LOADED with earmites. She just processed them anyway.
As for your doe I would treat her again pronto and do the follow up 10 days later. I don't wait a month for the follow up and I haven't had them come back that fast. I have 2 that I got from the same breeder that seem to be prone to mites but in 2 years it's only been 3 times.

I put diatomaceous earth under the cages and dust any wood, especially crevices where mites love to live. Also the chickens roost, nest boxes and dust bath. So far no problems with mites. Hope I'm not cursing myself saying this.

Once frozen they should be dead (the mites obviously ) and safe to feed to pets? I didn't plan on skinning for the pets. Only skinning for our consumption.
I'll do 10 days. Last time was 18 days between treatments.

Excellent. Thank you. Sometimes ya just need a reminder. 🤦‍♀️ I've been racking my brain trying to figure out sanitizing a 3 tear cage now that I don't only have adults in them but also kits so I can once again deep clean the cages. Currently I am saving for another set of cages but don't have enough cages to move everyone around to clean/sanitize. This is something I use often but didn't even think about that. Thank you very much for mentioning it!

The other two in the trio have now been treated nowl. Saw both having a low ear and itching tonight. Boy it's like a rodeo with these rabbits. You'd think we were killing them one hair at a time. The buck just tries every which way to shred me with his back feet. The second doe screams bloody murder and fights with everything she has in her no matter how she's held or where she's put. Thankfully all the kits have been handled (by me) since day one and are easy to handle. I'm guessing this is all a product of a big meat producer not handling these rabbits originally. I hope anyways. I had really hoped we'd made enough headway with them by now that they would get better. Nope. Now once again we are back to running away and making angry noises when I walk into the barn. What trust we had gained is gone.
