Dead newborn

This morning I found just a just born head on the wire. Would the body have been eaten by the mother? Several other newborns were in the nest box. If a rat had been in the cage wouldn't there been a mess?

Another doe also had kits but it seems the first one was stillborn but the other 2 came out OK. I happened to be watching her grind her teeth before birth so I guess she was in pain a little. The first one didn't move at all. The second moved around and made noise as did the third.

Most likely stillborn and eaten by the mother after it was born.

Some does just seem to know when a kit is going to be stillborn and are careful to have and dispose of it outside of the nest.
