I've got 2 8wk standard rex buns in a cage together (same litter) and one of them started 2-3 days ago with some eye lid redness and clear drainage. it seems to be more sometimes on left, sometimes on right, and sometimes not there. The other bun has not been affected. I have not seen any sneezing, nasal drainage, lethargy and not noticed any decrease in appetite or increase in water intake. What might be causing this and how worried should I be about possible transmission to other buns?
Thanks,
Kathryn

It could be allergies, an irritant in this rabbits eyes, a defect in tear production or several other things.

Watch this rabbit for signs of pasturella. If it gets better on its own I would suspect a foreign body irritated the eye, if it stays weepy for more than 3 days I would suspect allergies or an auto-immune disorder or congenital defect and cull the rabbit. At the very least I would not use it for breeding purposes.

It could be rabbit pink eye. I just treated a buck for that. I dripped PenG into his eye and it cleared right up.
